Well thought I'd start posting some of the build on a new Satellite 788 I'm building. So far the stab is complete, fus. is probably 50%, I'm using a box design instead of what's on the planes, Ref. pic attached. Pwr. will be a K&B 6.5. Will post progress as it comes.

John, this is the GLH version and it doesn't have any geodetic ribs in it. I have a 320 GLH and it is pretty stiff without the geodetics. I am though thinking about putting 1/2 geodetics in the wing just to satisfy myself though. I plan on covering it with Monokote.

Scott, you might want to check with Bob Hanford about his experiences with a 450 GLH with a 3.5cc. It is as you suggest for your 788 and it is one of the fastest power ships you'll want to be around. The only difference as I recall is that he caps his ribs with graphite. Also it is long lived and at least once survived a long motor run where the timer failed. I think you're on the right track.

Looks good Scott. I have very little experience with Satellites, the last one I built was a 320 and that was 40+ years ago. If I remember correctly Dick Covalt adds a extra rib in each panel for strength on his models. My advice is go by what your gut tells you.

Looking good Scott! The diagonals in the wing will do the trick alright. We wouldn't want to hear that terrible flutter sound while under power.
Still waiting for the house in Vegas to be completed, it's on time but living in the RV seems to slow the clock down.

Well the Satellite is finished and ready to start the trimming process. I hope it trims out as fast and as well as my previous 2 Satellites did. Pictures attached.

Hi Scott,
Late question on this thread ...
I'm building the fus of a 788GLH this weekend. Is the stab position of your model (in front of the fin) the same as that shown on the plan, and all you did was extend the fus to move the fin rearwards?

Dave, yes the stab is in the same position and shown on the plans I just extended the fus. to accommodate the fin!

Sorry Scott - another question ...
What thickness of balsa did you go with for the top and bottom sheeting of the fus. I can't find it referred to on either the '75 or Jack's Models versions of the 788.
I'm thinking it may be 3/32" ...

Think I've answered my own question ... The Series 70 plan for the Sat. 1000 refers to a 3/32" top and bottom fus sheeting.  |

Hi all,
Engine choice time for the Satellite 788 ...
This is being built as per plans and components that came in the kit from Klarich Customs.
Options are:
K&B 6.5 FIRE
Fox 36 Combat Special Mk IV (probably my preference)
Novarossi .28
WASP .28
Nelson or Jett Q500 (suspect these may be too much power without beefing up wing)
Any thoughts?

Just a thought while your this far into your build: I have been adding an inch+- to the front/back of the pylon and completely finishing the model except for the pylon so I have the balance point correct. Some guys slide the whole pylon forward and back, I just cut off what is hanging over from the wing position...so, the last part to finish is roughly the top 2 or 3 inches of the pylon after i have the correct wing position based on the CG. This has been working for me so I don't have to add weight to balance the model.

Couple questions:
1) Is there a kit (short or otherwise) for the 788 GLH?
2) I have an old Torpedo .40 that was last flown on a Starduster 900 many many years ago. what do you think? Should I resurrect the old beast and put it on a 788?

Rich, as far qs I'm aware there's currntly no kit of the 788GLH being manufactured. Occasionally they show up on ebay though.
I'm building mine from an old Klarich kit that was sold to me by a fellow flier here in Oz.
Plans for the 788 are available from NFFS, but they don't show the rib profiles.
