Instead viscous timers can create friction timer. The mechanism of repulsive rubber from an old CD rom.

There was another system I remember seeing some years back (1970s?) that used a spring-loaded plunger (1/8" =3mm?) dowel inside a piece of surgical tubing. There was a screw that pressed in on the surgical tubing to adjust drag on the plunger.  I'll try to dig out the drawing.

PS  Thanks for including the drawings of old F1As & F1Bs from Vol Libre.

Simplicate & add more lightness. Keep sanding!

Boca, I may be wrong, but I think Stan Buddenbohm designed the Silly Putty Trough Timer illustrated in Maxout.
(note to self: ask Rick P)
Many have used it since the 1990s. I too used it on several CLG & HLGs, but I found it too difficult to set for accurate DT times.
Also, if it was put into wing near TE, the increased weight meant CLG altitude was diminished somewhat.

Stan has a newer Silly Putty design which is built into body front and sealed.

I prefer Button viscous timers for CLG & Badge viscous timers for HLG, small rubber, power, etc. Contact FAI Supply or Flitetek for $$ & avail.

This is similar to but yet different from the viscous (Silly Putty) timer. In the middle of the aluminum tubes we have silicone rubber. What is this rubber? It is a rubber catapult for fishermen. It is resistant to abrasion, and a large number of operations. Smooth operation enables better control of time.

This weight is more useful than as mounted on a fuselage nose.

Would love to see how they are mounted & what are dimensional sizes?
