Saw this plan on Outerzone.co.uk and liked the blend of Spitfire design and P-30 specs.  I will be adding this to my Spitfire collection.

I built one of these about 10 years ago.  I do not remember any big problems although I moved and trashed the plane so it never got flown.

Hi All,

Does anyone have the actual plan for this neat P-30? I copied the file at Outerzone and it is pretty pixelated. I'd  love a hard copy.

Thanks,

Hi, I took this PDF to my office copier and played with enlarging to 30" and 36" wing spans.  They look sharp and not lacking detail.  I have access to HP Plotters that will put the entire plan on one sheet.  If you don't have access to a good copier take it to a commercial copy place. Won't cost too much.  BTW, we need to keep in touch on this build. I can't build yet but have played with the 10" prop, spinner and freewheeling mechanism. Next vacuforming the cockpit.  I am surprised that the airfoil is angular not rounded.  Good Luck.  I like Spits but I think this P-30 Spit is really cool.

Get Ratz (forum administrator) to print it!  He does a perfect job on excellent quality paper.

HI,

Thanks Glenn, what a great idea! I sent Admin an email. Mmitch, the plan does show a cracked-rib airfoil, but in P-30 you can use whatever you want. I have a Benedek 8356b in several sizes that will do nicely, or you could just do whatever flat-bottom appeals with a couple of turbulator spars. Hot dogs would probably do strip ribs with lots of air added. Some washout would be a good idea, too.

Okay everybody,

Wave off! Wave off! It was my fumble with the file. I tried to print the little file that first shows on screen, rather than downloading the pdf. My mistake. Rest assured the pdf is crystal clear and I'm sure Staples will make quick work of it. Thanks to all.

MMitch,

I am CDing a combined Vintage FAI/P-30 contest in August and had to make up the flyer. I have been featuring a Vint FAI and a P-30 3-view to go on the flyer, hence my interest in the Spitfire. As to building it, it is at least #3 in line behind a Geef "B" in progress and a Buckeridge Lightweight still in rolled plans. As contest season approaches that also includes getting all the rest of the fleet ready. What I'm suggesting is don't hold this thread open waiting for me to start. Like everyone, too many plans, not enough time. But thanks.

Wait until you retire and you will soon wonder how you ever had time to go to work!

Planning to start this build in couple weeks. Has anyone here actually built one? I’m still a newbie and have a couple of questions.

I have not yet.  I have been working on a couple of cabin flyers, Miss Canada and Keil Kraft Competitor.

Watch this video for some inspiration.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqATqXS735s

Here is a link to a build thread for what appears to be the same Spitfire P-30 shown in the video, or one remarkably similar to it:

https://www.modelyapiyorum.com/model-ucak/spitfire-p30-gultekin-kalay/

The text of the aforementioned build thread is in the Turkish language.  I ran a sample of the text through the Google translator and it did an excellent job.  The photos should be helpful.  It appears that the Turkish modeler built a flat-sided canopy.

Hey Cal, You got it.  Yes that’s my P30 Spitfire plan. Flys well.  Funny thing is I could help that builder with a vacuformed canopy!  I built the vac and mold to scratch build the Spitfire canopy before the rest of the plane.

Oooo. I'm excited. Can you help me with a vacuformed canopy? I'm building your beautiful plane for an August event.

Thanks

Big and Crabby:  I have 2 canopies.  See attached.  One I taped a frame on, the other without.  Will send you both one tomorrow.   Crabby, message me with your address.  I will not have the Spitfire built anytime soon so I look forward to seeing yours!

Okay, the video did it. Just seeing the plans I've been able to resist, but seeing it in the air makes me think I need one.

The canopy has arrived! Thanks, Mark. You’re a peach.

Look for this to show up in my build thread soon.

Strangely enough I got some of them from Hobby Lobby. The rest were from National Balsa. All were light and clear.
