I'm interested in building a copy of an old TERN AERO brand  TRAVELER glider.

Any idea where I can find either a kit or a set of plans?

Van, send me your mailing address (use the private message feature of this forum) and I will mail you a copy of the Traveler kit plan.

OOPS - I now see your address on your post. Something about not seeing the forest for the trees!!!

I'll get a copy of the plan in the mail tomorrow.

WOW!  That's fast.

Thanx, Jim.

I won a DRIFTER kit on the bay and saw the Traveler on the box.  Looked interesting.

I had the DRIFTER plan enlarged to a 36" wing span and plan to build it that size.

Will probably do the same with the Traveler.

At the SAM CHAMPS this October there will be a Bungee launch contest for 36" W.S. gliders and I plan to enter with several in that size. Wren, Gnome, LULU and as many more as I can afford to ship to Nevada from Alaska.

My powered flyer will be a TOMBOY in 36" also.  I kinda wish they would have a water bed so I could enter one on floats.  But, the contest is held on Eldorado Dry Lake bed just outside of Boulder City.  So, no floats.

In my youth I built 1/2 a dozen of these. All suffered from the solid 1/32 stab, it warps very easily! Also the Traveler needed  a lot of nose weight. I'd think about making the stab 20% smaller to lighten it  and look to making the stab and vertical fin out of a lighter foam.

They were a lot of fun, flying them off the slope on windless day. I'd wait for a thermal to pass by and throw the Traveler into the thermal as it broke free from the ridge.

Flyboy49, the last SAM champs I attended there in the 90's we had rain, the dry lake wasn't. Take some floats just in case. Cheesy We were able to find enough dry ground to complete the contest.

Thanx, again Jimmy.

I'll be looking forward to it's arrival.

Can I reimburse you in some way?  Hopefully there will be a snail mail address on the package, eh?

Van, no reimbursement required or expected. I've been building stick and tissue aircraft since 1956 and always happy to help out a fellow builder.

Flyboy, I understand most of the FAC contests will also have a towline event this year.

YUP! That's it.

Thanx.

But, Jimmy J has already sent copies of the plan and print wood by USPO snail mail.  Should be here in a couple days.

Jimmy,

The plans arrived late last week and I now have them enlarged to a 36" wing span. Drifter was blown 200%.

Same for the traveler plan. Traveler plan was blown 144%

Now anxious to get to making balsa dust.

Van, good to know the plans arrived.

I hope you post some build photos and let us know how the enlarged Traveler flies.
