Hi all - There is an F1D W/Chs happening in the USA next year. Australia has sent reps to the last few W/Chs (2012, 2014 and 2016) and will try to get there again for 2018. So I thought I'd start a thread on that topic...
We have a tentative Team Trial date in place for Sunday 10 September this year. I'm hoping we might scare a few bushrangers out of the scrub to compete. Not even sure where West Baden is...

Not even sure where West Baden is...

Nice little town in southern Indiana.
Popular get-away spot for our area...(golf, casino, ski slopes, winery, caves, hiking.....indoor free-flight  Grin)

Really nice video, thanks for posting. West Baden looks spectacular, I really like that you can both stay-in and fly-in the hotel! Motivates me to think about maybe trying to get back into indoor yet again.

In the F1D Blog:

https://thef1dblog.wordpress.com/

I have posted a link to the upcoming 2018 Indoor World Championships website:

https://sites.google.com/site/2018indoorworldchampionship/

In addition, as a teaser, I have uploaded the Brochure (updated) that was presented to the FAI with the bid:

Thanks so much for the extra info and links guys. The coordinates will come in useful if we decide to go off-road. Sure, the event is a year away - but something tells me the time will disappear. Probably need to build another aeroplane or two along that timeline also.

Also - as the replies came only from USA members  - I thought I better explain the Sydney Nolan / Ned Kelly painting reference in the first post. Sort of our equivalent of having a pic of the Statue of Liberty launching an F1D.  Grin

If I'd put 'Ned Kelly' in the topic heading I might have got more interest from down under...

Believe it or not, the FAI/CIAM requires the gps coordinates of the event site, including indoor events, to be included in the information given to the competitors.

For those of us who like decimal degrees (and for the few who use radians):

38.5670° N, 86.6185° W (0.673121 radians N, 1.511778 radians W)

AMA also requires coordinates when applying for a contest sanction.

The AUS F1D Team Trial (and F1lL/EZB comp) went well this weekend (results attached). Many thanks to friends and volunteers who turned up to assist, and members of the Adelaide Aeromodelers (my club!) who also supported the event, with processing and timing.

It was great to see Alex Secara again fresh from competing at the last World Champs in Romania. His models were still climbing very fast like they were still in the Salt Mines...  Max Newcombe had a variety of old and new components - some from Belgrade 2012 - which flew very well. Sean O'Connor was here from Victoria and campaigned with his usual determined focus. I liked his VP system and will get him to explain it again to me anon!

After one dodgy early flight, my own pattern settled and I managed some good flights with new (tho slightly heavy) components. Maris Dislers joined the party too with some very consistent flights with his F1D-legal 'Fly'.
Some photos will follow in the next days.

F1L was also flown. Jack Metcalf made a strong start as reigning champ, but battle damage dropped him to 2nd. He even broke out his F1L Canard in an attempt to steal a few seconds... but it was not to be this time.

Many thanks to all involved - some photos soon!
cheers

Hi Aki - low (about 8m) ceiling with many hang-up hazards. So we were flying pretty conservative and aiming for a 'no touch' pattern. Several models did get caught up and retrieving caused catastrophic damage in some cases. Full motor though.

My old mate from Medlanky! Good to hear from you Malc.
Pending MAAA seal of approval I should be on my way.
What are you flying? You should join us indoors.
