Hi all,

I am looking for plans and parts sheets for this little Keil Kraft rubber powered free flight sports model, as it seems perfect for my lad to build.

Most of it was die cut with sheet sides and tail parts, with a straight built up wing, so it is an easy one to get James to cover.  So if anyone has an original kit they can lend me that would be ideal as I will re-draw the parts for laser cutting. I will then make the patterns freely available...

I think I built this one as a kid, I think it flew ok (well as good as they ever did!  Grin)

Thanks in anticipation.

Andrew

Ps I would also buy a kit if anyone was willing...

I don't know if this helps, but I am certain that Derick Scott has it, he sold a copy of one on eBay not long ago

Hi Bert,

His name does not ring a bell.  Do you have contact details.  The other thing is I suppose is that is he going to be happy me putting it in the Gallery here if he is selling copies?

Sorry; it's model-plans.co.uk, but he doesn't seem to have the Gemini listed...

Well, I found an original kit on a Greek model shop site for 13 Euro, the owner said that the shipping was the same for two than for one so I bought the two!

I intend to build one tracing the kit wood as I go, so I can put accurate parts patterns in the plan Gallery.  The kit wood is very heavy, but I want to see whether it will fly.  I think I built one of these as a kid and it flew - in a fashion  Cheesy

I hope to convince VMC to kit it once I have done, and laser a set of parts for My lad James.

Talking of your James- there's a nice photo him with his indoor nats model in the July issue of Flying Scale Models (to go with the unfortunately mis-captioned one in Aeromodeller.  It gives him proper credit this time!)

Andrew,
That would be great and a welcomed addition.

I've done some work on this recently, I have traced (and corrected) the wood.  For instance the plan has (correctly) got formers with strengtheners across the grain, whilst whoever laid out the die cuts rotated them through 90 degrees!

I left it alone for a while but needed to trial some silver tissue for my VMC Mustang, so covered the wings with it. The weight is 42g sans rubber and nose weight

Glides onto the bed are nose down, but the rear peg position and the fact it will need to fly much faster than "on to bed throws" to stay aloft (due to its slightly porky weight) means some nose weight will be needed I think...

Andrew, I am intrigued to know whether your Greek model shop owner has any more gems available.  Does he have a web site?

I brought the Gemini over to France to see if I could get it to fly.  In short it does and rather well for a mainly sheet model.

The first trimming flight (not on film) was a bit nose heavy and barely gained altitude so I took off some noseweight and got a reasonable if roller coaster flight:

So I reduced the incidence by putting a flattened grass stalk (so scientific I know!  Grin but 1 French grass stalk is about 1/32") under the trailing edge.

This was the resulting flight:

As you can tell it is a little breezy, but it coped quite well trying to battle into the wind.

I think built with reasonable wood, it is a nice simple and robust flyer, the wing is certainly very robust and the twin fin keeps the sheet tailplane nice and flat.
