I couldn't make up my mind which of the two vintage coupes I fancied the most so there was nothing else to do but build 'em both. The models I had in mind were the Machaon and the Babar. The main concern with the Machaon is the amount of sheet wood involved which can very easily lead to an overweight model so unless you're the owner of some really light wood it's recommended you don't consider this one. Buuuut...the Machaon has such nice lines and looks just right so out comes the 4 .5 and 5lb wood and off we go. I rarely do build logs because I work in such a hap-hazard, disorganised fashion I always forget to take photos. I've done it again and with some coercion from 'tctele' I've included a photo of where I'm up to so far...

Thanks guys, I'll try and trim them here and put them away for the UK. I've got a Bob White 'Beau coupe' in skeletal form as well and that needs covering and finishing off. Weights so far on the two vintage models are:
MACHAON
Wings.....21g
Fuselage. (Inc. Noseblock).....27.8g
Tailplane.....4.1g
Fins......1.3g
That's 54.2g so far, leaving 15.8g to make a prop/dt/rear peg. Plus any ballast because the wing position is fixed so nose/tail ballast may be required. I reckon 70g is do-able, the original model prop was 11g with noseblock but I've included that with my fuse weight.
BABAR
Wings.....23.3g
Fuselage.....17.7 (so far, dowels +tail mount and take off leg to add)
Tailplane.....3.8g
Fin...... .9g
45.7g so far, leaves 24.3g to finish. Again, quite do-able I think.
The babar plan has a prop drawing on it so that's easy but the machaon drawing merely gives a blade shape and p/d ratio of 1.5:1 so hopefully somebody cleverer than me (just about everybody) will step in with some block dimensions for me
Cheers Gary

If I'm not mistaken, for a P/D of 1.5, the ratio of the dimensions of the tip of the block should be 2/3pi or 1 to 4.71 or about 12 degrees. This assumes that the radius of the prop will be the same as the length of the block, where the inner end of the block represents the center of the prop and the face is parallel to the shaft there. That's for a forming block. If you want to carve a blade, you can save wood by cutting a different shape, but I'd need some dimensions and the blade shape to show you that. If you pester me, I need CAD practice and can work up some pictures and maybe a drawing.

Oops! Prop dimensions on the plan are 400P x 450P (see what I mean!?) this is the blade shape and it's 45mm at its widest point.

Great models. Thought I'd add mine, a Bagatelle, hopefully I'll remember to light the D/T fuse on this one as I lost the last one in a boomer, amazing how long it takes to put these things together, enjoyable though. Excuse the "Foreign" object holding it up!
