+ Hmmm.. a Scale flight of that thing wouldn't look Anything like  the Video'd one.
The Gossamer contraption .. Barely.. achieved it's design objectives.
 Not a hope it could have done a circling pattern

That's true enough. You could say the same about all the Santos Dumont 14 bis peanuts you see floating about near the ceiling for ages. Still nice to warch in their own right though.

Yes it fit - and the aeroplane did what it needed to do - remember the power source  was pedal power - so that was the real influence on the performance.

I wonder if the same aircraft today, utilizing the better conditioned and trained athletes of this more modern age, would fair better than the last generation of pedalers.  And could the aircraft be built lighter even than before?  Lighter airframe, improved source of power...better performance?
