Great to see Qazimoto has put the plan for the New Devil up.

Great work.

The Plan Site is looking so good.

Regards

Is it really that long ago I started thinking about this model??

Progress so far - it's starting to look lie a plane now. Hard part coming, I have to fit the cowl, and make it:
1 square,
2 strong and
3 look like it belongs there!

The New Devil has now reached it's final shape. Now needs filling & sanding, sanding & filling (sounds like a song)!

Hardly looks any different, but now has primer/filler.

More sanding and filling to come!

Well it's less than 3 years since Ray put the plans up, so I guess my building is getting faster!  Grin

It's a beauty. There's no hiding place with that finish.

Magnificent. Now that's what I call a proper speed model, not just half a wing & half a tail!

Jim,

It's a Super Tigre G20s from the 50's, for Aussies I think it was from Jack Finneran's estate.

For those that never knew Jack Finneran, he was the most lovely guy you could know, and a damned good speed flyer in the old tradition.......Also flew radio pre. WW2.

Thanks for that Gossie, I never got to meet him, I did see him do his stuff at the Melbourne Nats of 65.

Having almost finished the model now I have discovered:
a. That I'm totally cr@p with rattle can spraying and
b. That paint (VHT Engine enamel) is very forgiving and can be seriously worked after it dries.

I ended up  the the usual orange peel, and even a couple of places where the paint had blistered.
So I attacked the model with some wet 2000 grit wet & dry paper until the painted surface was blemish free, then came a thorough going over with car cutting compound till there was an eve low grade shine. Then the Meguiars Deep Crystal Wet look, and man what a finish.

I amazed myself

What is happening with the custom backplate and the fuel plumbing Greg?

John,

The complicated plumbing is the result of a couple of factors.
1. The Venturi housing is very narrow and is drilled for a 3.2 mm spray bar
2. 3.2 mm Super Tigre style NVA's are rarer than rocking horse droppings.
3. Because the head fins have been shaved the front of the model is very narrow, making a normal NVA hard to fit in the cowl.

So rear NVA it became, and because I'm going with a large venturi, a pressure feed is essential - the top of the brass fittings. The NVA holder is shaped from 1/4" ali, milled to 1/8" at the fittings. The second brass fitting is the fuel feed mating to the usual feed hole in the NVA. It was a  total PIA to make and is still untested.

It looks very neat Greg. I'm sure Jack Finneran would have liked it.
Its one of the prettiest looking classic style speed models I've seen. Love the Fin

No fly yet John, I'm still admiring my handiwork.

Oh & yet to make a tank for it  Huh

State Champs coming up in June, so probably time to extract the digit!

Well I finally found my ditigis extractus (very well hidden) and got the controls fitted & tank made.

Now to admire it until I can't avoid flying it.
