Some of my older plans from online sites call for "
cane
" instead of balsa. I don't know what that is. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

Probably
split bamboo, as in "bamboo cane". Has a pretty good strength to weight ratio, but I've yet to find a glue that holds it well which may be why a lot of the pre-balsa era plans often show it held in place with thread bindings.

I think that what they mean is the stuff they used for making seats for 'cane' chairs.

As for bamboo, I have had no issues with Gorilla Carpenter's glue holding bamboo struts for my models.

Thanks. My builds are experiments presently, so I'll get some of each to give them a try.
