Well I think I'll call it done ...apart from the exhaust and tail struts but I need to trim it a bit more before that
Not sure if I'll enter it or in what class but nice one to build

A week to go to the UK indoor Nats and I finally got my peanut DH60 to fly reliably yesterday ...hopefully thats not famous last words.. The trimming has taken it's toll though and a couple of burst motors have made the fuselage look distinctly tatty. There's nothing for it but a partial recover for the worst bits... which of course is the bit with the markings on  I'm now using a wobbly small bobbin on the rear peg to help prevent motor bunching so I've added an extra cross member underneath so I can leave a small access panel uncovered to get to the peg to make fitting the motor easier. The bobbin has really help with consistent motor runs, thanks to Andy Blackburn for the suggestion. I made mine from some 5/16" ali tube which is a loose fit on the 1/8" motor peg and some Proskin fibreglass sheet for the sides which I cut out with a couple of punches and glued together with thin Cyano. Total weight came out at 0.11g While the covering was off I could see where the motor has been touching the inside of the formers around the nose , so with Dremel and a long dentists burr I gently enlarged the cutout in the formers to give a bit more clearance |

I'm amazed at how neat your repairs are!
What's the plan for spraying the fuselage? I assume that nothing's going to be taken off, so vast amounts of masking and newspaper to catch the overspray?

Post it notes. Also I found a roll of low tack tape that comes with 12-18 inches of clear Saran type mask attached. It was at a paint store. Made for masking walls while painting floorboard. Not cheap but very handy.

Had a lovely motorbike run out to Old Warden today making the best of the dry lanes before the showers hit with Andy B (of this Parish) . What is it about 'old' men and red motorbikes? Great chance to admire the collection and get a few extra photos of G-EBWD.
Back at base, having skill fully(luckily) ridden a path back round the thunderstorms and an exhaust is taking shape. Some 1/16" square sanded to round section and bent to shape with the help of some boiling water. Tomorrow I'll respray the repaired sections now the dope has had a chance to 'gas off'

Resprayed the fuselage today
Masking was just small strips of newspaper and small strips of frog tape in the end. A bit fiddly but straight forward
My Airbrush looks like the Iawata trigger one but is in fact a cheap Chinese copy from ebay, it has served me well. It was a bit patchy when I first got it particularly at fine settings but it has got better with use, presumably as the needle has polished itself up a bit. I use more like a tiny spray gun rather than an airbrush to draw fine lines and it's proved good at that. Paint is the same Humbrol white enamel thinned in cellulose thinners
Looks a bit better now, I'll add the decals once the paint has properly dried overnight

Right finished it  ...hopefully it still flys with the extra twiddly bits Slight difference in the white on the fuselage side, in retrospect I should have re-done the whole lower panel. Interestingly the full size has different shades of white on it too ...just not in the same places as the model |

It’s looking really nice, and I don’t think the slightly different whites matter. I always think a bit of variation like that adds to the general air of realism. I shall look forward to seeing it on Sunday.
