Title: Veron Hawker Fury Video
Post by: Rich Moore on March 03, 2013, 05:43:06 PM
We got some cheap 'stop frame' software for my 9 year old son. I thought I'd have a go, in an attempt to give him ideas/ inspiration. I ended up starting this (and regretted it on more than one occasion!).
It is (very) rough around the edges, but quite fun. I hope you like it!

That's fun. What was the software you used? I might have a go at something like that one day.

It's a thing program called 'Clay Animation' which came with a dinosaur themed book. Recorded each session, end finally cobbled it all together in 'Movie maker'

Fantastic mesmerising little film! Thanks!
(and the build pace is only slightly slower than Monique in real time)

You have a well trained sanding block.  Mine usually runs off and hides.  I tend to spend a lot of time looking for him.  Maybe I should get a leash for it ;).

Excellent. How do you find the time to build models and make films as well?

That was great, a most enjoyable short video. Must have taken a lot of forethought, not to mention artistic talent.

VERY entertaining!  Got to see the rest!

Found this (http://www.animateclay.com/index.php/articles/72-free-downloads/129-anasazi-stop-motion-animator) which may help those interested in the process.

THIS (http://www.heliumfrog.net63.net/heliumfrogindex.html) one is more modern (2010).  The developers are writing a version for Mac (might be finished by now).

Genius! Loved it! ;D

I echo Ian's thoughts, I mean I struggle to think what i'm going to do next on a build, never mind making an animation at the same time!

The young aero modeling apprentice and I watched it last night. ;D
It made for a great diversionary intermission to her piano practice session. 8)
I could hardly get her to concentrate on the remainder of her work. :D ;D :)
It was that captivating.
Brilliant.

She couldn't stop laughing. :D

Not too much extra work really. Fit part, click. Fit another part, click. Etc.. Apart from the 'artistic' diversions, which weren't so much planned as made up on the go. The most time consuming part was editing the music. The music I had was only 1 1/2 minutes long and the video was 5 1/2 minutes, so lots of repeating of various bars. I think I pulled it off...

Anyway, this isn't Aeromodelling! The Fury is a nice build. It combines frame construction with formers/ stringers and has been very enjoyable. Once again, I have kept true to the plan. So far I don't think I have deviated at all. I have been reading Dan Mellor's se5 thread to learn about silver tissue...

Hi! Hope you got a few useful bits from the SE thread; the silver tissue isn't too bad once you get used to it and it DOES look good...!

Cheers,

Dan.

Just pulled all the Fury parts out of a box. Looking forward to covering this - on film of course (groan). But first, I need to partake in some sanding.

Also, I've started a 150% Fury (May nationals Kit-scale me is thinking). All the parts are now stuck on balsa, ready for chopping out...

Blimey! That must be a similar size to the Flair Mini Classics Fury kit that I have sat around waiting it's turn...

I think my Fury will be 25.5". The Flair Fury is 26". So, 'Yes' ! I like this size. Better suited to my clumsy great hands!

More on the standard size fury...

Tissue covering is almost complete. I've just given wings their first coat of banana oil (approx 60% cellulose thinners). I was expecting a bumpy ride with the silver tissue as I heard that it was a pain in the r's. Not gone too badly so far - applied shiny side in and shrunk with fine mist of water to achieve a reasonably wrinkle free finish. However, the silver is not coming through as I had hoped with the cellulose treatment. Oh dear. It'll have to be a grey Fury! Maybe with subsequent applications something'll happen...

Ah! Perhaps I should have checked my stocks...I have used hobbyshop silver tissue, which whilst very silver on one side probably isn't the same as esaki silver tissue, of which I have two sheets. Never mind - with further coat of banana oil, a little more 'silver' has come through. It'll have to be a Fury with a weathered look, as I ain't starting again!
Or perhaps I use the esaki on front portion to represent the sheet aluminium which, naturally, looks more polished (more silver?) than the painted canvas on flying surfaces and tail...

Hi Dave - You had a lucky sneak preview! I uploaded it on my son's YouTube account (the muppet logged into YT on my computer and forgot to log out). I have reloaded it on my own account and ...
