Title: Pres Bruning Peanut P-40N enlarged to 16 in.
Post by: Sky9pilot on April 10, 2013, 08:35:00 PM
Hi ya'll,

I was building this P-40N for the QBC on SFA...didn't finish so thought I post a few progress pics of the P-40 here.  I hope to finish her soon and I'm going for the Geronimo scheme of the south pacific.  I built the canopy today and I'm thinking of redoing it because I bumped it while it was drying.  I couldn't get all the wrinkles out of the panels.  But here's where she is so far.  I added some panel lines while the canopy was drying.  She is still in parts but I mocked her up for the pics...

Very nice P40qmilj....

My fetchermites think if it doesn't have sharksmouth it can't be a P-40!!!!

I'm letting them down a bit by going with this scheme but I kinda like being different with this one.  I still want to do a big P-40 with the sharksmouth.  I believe that's a "C" model you have pictured there?

I've completed more work with panel lines, canopy and frame work, new spinner, landing gear with struts from rolled paper and painted silver, and wheels with foam wheels made from foamboard split in two.  Because it's a dimescale model I decided to go with printed exhaust and nose art.   Still have to complete wing fillets, prop and nose block.

;D  yah sorta.  its actually a hawk 81 which is the export model of the p-40 B/C depending upon the guns and self-sealing tanks.

Hi Ya'll,

I finally finished the P-40N that I started for the QBC Cookup on SFA.  Here's the final pics. Got the prop done and I'm trying for the first time the adjustable noseblock from D. Knight Ltd...through A2Z.  We'll see how it works out.  Too windy here for trimming yet, hope to get to that soon.  Completed the wingfillets with bond paper and tissue applied with gluestick.  I hit it with alcohol to set the glue stick once in place.  Here's the final pics of the build...

Hey Tom, I just started looking at Peanuts & found your build. It sure looks great. Did you ever get a chance catch air?

Thanks Jimmy,

With the move I had to reduce my squadron size, my son's step son saw the P-40 and went bananas over it, he just turned 10 so he became the proud owner.  We hope to get her in the air this summer.  I hope to get him building his own models soon.  He's a detail person, and right now is caught up in origami.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Hey Tom, that's great to hear that it went to a budding pilot! So if he's a detail person then I see him just the type to do well building S&T!  ;)

Please make sure to let us know how the maiden goes.

Merry Christmas!!!  ;D

Just caught this guy ,That is fantastic I love the P40 -all types - my Father was in Burma/China in WWII and was in the USAAF , he was on some of the bases that the Flying Tigers were using just before they brock up and went home or joined the USAAF !
