Title: Rubber power meeting in Switzerland
Post by: rgroener on August 22, 2017, 01:45:28 AM
I decided to open a new thread with announcements for our rubber power meetings in switzerland. I will post all the future meetings to this thread instead of open new threads for every single meeting. This way, we have all the information for the swiss meetings in one place. Hope this ist acceptable for you ;D

Our next rubber power meeting will be held on 21.Oktober 2017 in Olten on the glider airfield "Gheid"

There is no competition, just for fun! Allowed is everything powered with rubber or CO2.
If the weather is to bad, it will be canceled, there is no reserve date.

If someone is interested, please send me a PM. I will be happy to give you more information or answer your questions.

I just found out, that there is a new video of our spring meeting this year. Hope you enjoy it ;D

Best regards and see you soon Roman

Hi Roman,

Great video.  Looks like a neat place to fly.  And had a good chuckle when I saw the credits at the end.

That was a great video and all of our compliments to the production crew. The shots of all the planes flying in relative closeup fading to more planes flying and then to more planes flying, launching and flying, a few of winding and Louis Armstrong in the background.....a great 4 minute treat. A very nice change from our usual home videos of specks in the sky.

Thanks Roman- a highly enjoyable video and some great looking models. I especially like the look of that silver bipe with the Swiss markings on the tail, and great to see George's little fat Bellanca doing its stuff against that permanently blue Swiss sky!
(My kind of music too!)

Hi Roman,

Thanks for the thread and for the video link. Indeed a pleasure to see again some of the action and an appetizer for Olten  ;)

Great music (how was it allowed?) and funny credits indeed.

Re the silver bipe: Not only a vintage design, but a vintage model too. The owner told me it was a pre/WWII model built by his father or grandfather...Some models really last long...

Great stuff Roman - you know you're Switzerland when you see the alpenhauser in the background like that!  It looked as though the terrain did not always make it easy - are you flying on the side of a hill there?  I couldn't see crampons and rope but I was looking!  The lovely slow bipe looked like an Albatros or Aviatik - is there a plan around for this model?  Thanks again - I look forward to seeing the PC9 in the next video.  PS loved the Louis Armstrong.

Holy Moly, I am just two days away and there are 14 responds to my post:-)

Just to make it clear, the video is not from me! Sorry if  my post made the impression. The credits all go to Zöpfli!

Zöpfli, great to see you here! It was just luck that I found your great video on the IG Albatros website. Thanks a lot for sharing, hope to see you in Olten!

Ha ha, you must live in a very flat part of the world ;D Look at the picture, it's a small vineyard in the background, no crampons are needed ;) By the way, it was the finest soft swiss grass, ideal for trimming. Only the wind was a bit to much... But hey, you can not have everything :D

I am not sure about the name of the silver bipe. I will ask for it and will inform you.

Hi Roman

Indeed, the finest soft swiss grass, ideal for trimming together with this windy day prepared me some Trouble to find my peanut P39 Airacobra with his green camo  ;D.
Peter had more fun with his Paper Pistachio size catapult Launch glider, with some near 1 Minute flight.

The model of the silver Bi-Plane is a Haefeli DH-3. Built by the father of Hansruedi Zeller and repaired an renovated by Hansruedi . This model  is an old-timer and more than 50 years old. ::)

Greetings from Peter from the Swiss one

I'm on a regular PC, but I also tried on mobile and my neighbor's Notebook (laptop) with no luck.  It might be due to the copyright, but Heinz was able to view it...  maybe the browser (FireFox)?

VERY strange... still can't view on my PC, even after checking all codecs and settings.  Only problem on Zoepfli's channel, and NOT on all the videos ???.

Just for a X-check, I called up the clip on my cell-phone and it played perfectly...  VERY ENJOYABLE!

Zip.58, great to see you on HPA. What about Olten, will you be there?
Thanks for answering the question about the silver bipe.

Dalat, you are right, green camo doesnt go to well with green grass.... your should build an other plane with different colours for the fall meeting ;D Olten? Are your Hunter and Mirage ready to be flown?

George, I have your prototype ready by the meeting in Olten. If you dont plan to come to Olten, I could bring it to Nijmegen...

Last weekend we had our swiss rubber power autumn meeting in Olten.
For the second time we were allowed to use the glider airfield "Gheid" in Olten. Thanks a lot!
The sun was there, many old and new faces, but also the wind....
The plan was to fly as much as possible in the morning as long as the wind was still sleeping ;D

As you can see in the pictures, it worked out quite well. There was plenty of flying and a wide variety of different models in action.
Arround lunch time, the wind was just to strong to fly out models savely. Therefore we had lunch and chatted about our new projects.

A big thank you! goes to Thomas Hofer, our superb fotographer of the day! Look at these gorgeous pictures he shared with us....

If everything goes well, the next meeting will be held in spring 2018. News will follow as soon as the date and place ist set.

Hello Roman and all, happy to see you had a good time last Sunday with an excellent photographer substituting you Roman. So you had a day off and could do nothing else than flying  ;)

I choose to attend another get-together slightly less far to drive than Olten, only 450km and not 650. Maybe next spring....

I will inform you as soon as I have the date.

But we used the short window for some flights.

Pete, I am afraid it was in switzerland... But it was not in my area...
It was a completely new situation for me, I know rain and clouds only from TV....

Awful... On monday we started a petitition for a referendum "We want the sun back".
They had to give in, and this weekend it was sunny again. It's so easy in switzerland 8)

Spring meeting switzerland

Last saturday we held our rubbber power spring meeting in switzerland.
As forecasted, there was a lot of sun, but also strong and gusty wind.
Some of the pilots were brave enough to fly anyway.
Dont tell it anybody, I chickened out after on flight and concentrated more on chatting and taking pictures.
Surprisingly there was only minor damage in the fleet :)

Two weeks ago we had our outumn meeting in switzerland.
Against the ordered nice weather, it was raining and winding most of the day. We hat to work on that for the next time.
But despite the bad weather, we met in Olten and discussed the newest project. In the afternoon, it was even possible to fly some of the planes.

John, your welcome.
The fuselage of the Hurricane is that wide, that I think I couldn't launch it with one Hand. We only saw it static in Olten, no flights at the meeting due to the weather. According to the builder, the first trim flights look promising. I am looking forward to see it fly :)

Hi Roman.   Excellent in-flight pics.  8)   Those are wonderful pics to study.  :o   I always like to inquire about flying fields -  your  grass looks pretty lush.  Is that a sod farm?   What would be the approximate size of your flying field?   For comparison, my Cricket field is quite small -  it is 110 yards x 130 yards, shaped in somewhat of a slight oval.
Thanks for your pic #3 in reply #55.   Now I see how you wind a rubber motor, by the propeller, still attached to the rubber, and with the thrust button also on the prop shaft, attached to the rubber.   I only saw a pic of the other style, where there was a hook of the prop wire sticking out past the nose, for you to attach the winder hook to.  Thanks again for the pics.
Now that sports are cancelled everywhere,  because of the Corona virus pandemic, maybe we can get out into a small park to fly some quiet rubber powered models.   :)

Richard

Thanks everybody :D

Jack, No, the Hurricane did not fly. It was damaged in the first trimming flights some weeks ago. Now she is repaired and reinforced at some points.
The builder will start soon with some new test flights. I hope to see it in flight at one of the next meetings. It is quite impressive to see such a great model compared to a peanut ;D

Richard, If my planes have a spinner, I always use a cord to wind the whole unit (spinner, propeller and thrust button). It does not matter if it is a two- tree- or four blade propeller...

Pete, sorry, I know there is not enough sun on the pictures for your taste. I cant keep up the illusion that we only have sunny and nice weather in switzerland ;) But at least it was flyable... The big (24")  Piper Vagabond flies still great. I only let it fly if the conditions are nice. This plane is an amazing flyer. What a pity, that the kit is not available anymore....

Stay healthy and build something new or let your models fly. Just keep the heads up :)

This year's meeting at the airfield "Gheid" fell victim to us COVID-19 had to be cancelled. Instead, we organized a virtual meeting on our website gummimotor.ch. The participants took photos of the models that they would have taken to Olten and Roman then aranged them in the gallery. So we all hope for a meeting in the new year.
