Post by: Tom Barnett on March 11, 2010, 05:18:53 PM
Hello All!

Here 's some photos of my latest Great Expectations Bostonian from July 1981 Model Builder.

Covered with condenser paper and NO dope. It will be tested at the end of this month.

Here's the same model recovered in the last few days with jap tissue. The original condenser paper covering was getting very brittle.
Flew this morning very well. Looks better in the air too.

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Bostonians certainly have charm. I notice that you now have a balsa prop with FW. is this because it now flies outdoors?

Yes, it's defiantly an outdoor model. I can't find a Bostonian category in the outdoor section.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Tom.  The recover looks nice.   Have you had a chance to fly it?   What kinda flight times are you getting?

Skip.

I've been flying it for the past couple of days. Flys good. The same as it use to. Probably in the 45 second range. It flys fine on 2 strands of 1/8" but will climb more on 4 strands of 3/32". Sometimes a smaller size (cross section) motor gives a longer flight. I'm using a drag flap on the left wingtip to keep the circles smaller and keep the model from flying too far away. Thermals can always change this of course.

Thank you Skip!

Looks like it might not meet the 1 square inch windshield as viewed from the front rule. I guess you'd call that projected area in the fore and aft direction. That's the rule indoors, in the USA, anyway. Not sure about outdoors.

I have the full size plan and the original Model Builder article. I just uploaded the original article and reduced plan. It usually takes a while for it to be processed for download.
