Title: Help Support the Forum & Gallery - Plan Printing
Post by: Ratz on July 27, 2011, 05:17:20 PM
Printing of plans up to 42" wide by whatever length on high quality (90 gsm/4 mil) bond paper.
PDF originals preferred but I will work from just about anything.

$1.00 (CAD$) per sq ft (plus actual postage) + $1.00 for packaging & the trip to the post office.

Plans are mailed folded in a 10x13 brown envelope.
Rolled in a tube will cost extra.

I always do my best to clean up, square up and verify scale accuracy of every plan.

Email the plan(s) you'd like printed to me (include your mailing address).
I will provide you with a quote for the final amount and a link for sending the funds via PayPal.
Money Orders are ok too but that adds time to the process.
Printing will commence upon receipt of your payment.

Dave Rattenbury (Ratz)

Send plans and mailing address to: [email protected]

I will personally attest to the very high quality of the work.  He has done a couple of plans for me working from pdf's and a jpeg.  The paper is Heavy weight paper and thick enough that I could use it for templates.  Well worth the money and you don't have to put up with the local Kinko's or whatever.  One further thing....he can print it to pretty much any size wing span you want. :)

And no, I don't get any kickbacks except the odd cup of coffee when I'm in the big city! ::)

Ratz was recommended to me by a “Top Notch” model builder. I had very high expectations. Mr. Ratz sure came through. The quality, paper and professionalism where totally outstanding. If your like me when I’m going to spend some time on a build I want to start with a “Top Shelf” set of plans. Do yourself favor and get you plans printed here.

Re Plan Printing,
I have just had two large plans printed from the Gallery by Ratz, one a blow up from a smaller size. Both plans arrived in 7 days, Canada to Oz and are of top quality. Considering the work involved, (the blow up resulted in several large sheets), the packaging, as well as the actual printing, the charges were more than reasonable. As a result of the exercise, I shall probably order the printed plans directly in future, rather than download them and get them printed locally.

Title: Re: Help Support the Forum & Gallery - Plan Printing
Post by: Ratz on June 13, 2012, 08:20:43 PM
Thanks Mike.

It's a shame that sending from Canada to OZ in a mailing tube was cost prohibitive. It pained me to have to fold those suckers and stuff them in envelopes. Hope the creases smooth out for you.

One other thing about the quality of these prints is they are so good that they make excellent wall art for those die hard modelers.  I have a large one hanging in my work room.  Too pretty.

Hi George,

There's got to be at least one plan you'd like to get your hands on. Even if it's just to hang on the wall in your workshop.

Perhaps there a number of smaller plans (too big for your own printer) that you would normally tile when printing and then tape together. We could print 2, 3 or 4 of them on one large sheet. Save you the hassle of taping them together.

The plan arrived at the postoffice saterday evening ,Pat picked it up about an Hr. ago and it looks
great !
I don't remember this bird being quite this large way back when ?
But that is most likely due to the length of time that has pased from then to now and my sometimers
getting in the way of my brain !
Thank you to much Dave now I know what my winter project will be X 5  ;D ;)

I don't know if they are fast or not but at least it came in with out being destroyed in transit ,
Bill Brown (rip) sent me two models a couple of years ago befor he died and one came in perfect
but the other was 1/2 destroyed when I got it  :'( I tryed to have it replaced but our postal people
would not even answer me back on the subject) so I got the message if I wanted my mail to
come in in one piece I should give up the claim and shut up ? ??? I was a little peeved but left it go  >:(
It was not our post office that was at fault and I suspect it was the customs people that stuck
thier knoses in the box that destroyed the contents

Kudos to Dave for superior work!

Last week I ordered a plan enlargement of the classic 1937 Red Zephyr gas free flight.
The price for the printing was very reasonable, and the plan set was shipped from Canada
to my address here in California really fast. I'll certainly order again in the future.

Best regards,

Dave,

Thanks for the great print job on the Pilot QB 10 and Pilot Akromaster 20 plans.  Very quick processing and shipping and thanks for the extra work cleaning them up.  I will use you again for my next projects.

Joe

(with this website and others my project list I think is endless.... let's see I'm 45 years old and if I built 12 planes a year by the time I'm 70 and allergic to every known adhesive and wood, I will have 300 planes.  Enough to last the rest of my life....  ;D)

Dave sent me a set of plans for a project that was a custom job of a HyperBipe, and they were in color. The plans were on great paper, and the crisp line work was the best I have ever seen. Meanwhile different areas of the subject were hi-lighted in reds, greys as well as black for critical structure and the formers were redesigned and correct. This project was a colaberation in structure and design that we corresponded over for a number of years so you will find that Dave's ability to work with you in plans development will be good for your designs.  I will be looking forward to building this plane for my STG51 for spring standoff scale.

Thanks again Dave.

Just received plans for the Hangar Rat. Excellent print work by Ratz.  Kinda makes sense that the two should go together so well  :)  The price was right and the shipping was quick. And let me tell you, the whole process with Ratz was so much better than trying to work with my printer and at times a copier. I defer to those of you that have it all down pat. I have a time trying to figure out how to get the printer to spit out what I want in the size I want and getting copiers to do the same is hardly any better for me.

With Ratz, I sent him the file from the Plan Gallery, he confirmed what I wanted and a couple of days later a great plan is in my hands. Geesh, life is good.

Thanks, thank you very kindly sir!!

Hey guys,

I am relatively new to this forum and trully excited that I discovered this site. I have been building model airplanes for more than 20 years and I trully enjoy building from scratch and do all sorts of modifications. My true passion, however is on control line stunts, and it was a dream come true when I discovered this site. So I decided to place a couple of plans and let me tell you: the service I got from Dave was OUTSTANDING, the quality of the plans are TRULLY AWSOME and I will be placing MANY more orders again and again ... No matter how many times I have "bugged" Dave with all sorts of email questions, he took his time to answer them all in a timely fashion and thorough. He also took his time to go the extra mile to give me alternative suggestions as well.
Oh, and one more thing: the pricing is also VERY GOOD which makes things even better.

Keep up the good work Dave.

A trully satisfied customer

Hi Jacko,

My preference is that you download the plan and email it to me using the link provided in my plea for Forum and Gallery Support.

It's also important that you send me your mailing address so I can get an accurate price for postage.

Please do so.

I've got to tell you, folks, Dave is legit! Top quality paper, the plans look great! One sheet for a 33% Terzi Katana came or to 36" wide by 120" long, much larger than the local chain-type office store could handle, and here I am, a few days after Dave sent notice that the plans were on the way, looking at it spread across the living room floor ... <Holy Mackerel! This is a big plane!>

AND even after shipping costs (with a little extra to ship rolled plans), he beat the the best price I could find locally. I'm sold. I'm passing on his services to my club.

Add to all this, Dave is really easy to work with and aims to put out quality materials and service.

And, no, I am not a paid spokesperson.   ;D

Ratz took my set of so-so plan PDF file of a Westland Lysander, cleaned it up and enlarged the wingspan to exactly 50 inches. I was absolutely satisfied with "almost" 50 inches but I asked for 50 inches and Ratz did the 50. Saying 'happy' with the product he sent me isn't adequate. The image is on heavy paper and the lines are crisp, clean and consistent shade of black. I'm going through my files of plans now to see what my next Ratz project will be.  AND, in my opinion, the cost was very very reasonable. For what he did for me, I got a bargain!

Frankly, the service was better than my local copy shop (Staples).  The quality infinitely better - they I am sure would not have the know how and "technology".  So although the cost, due to the postage, was very slightly higher, in value for money terms he wins hands down. Thus highly recommended!! :) 8)

I asked Dave to take a plan that showed half of a wing and a stab. flip to get the w&s shown completely, enlarge by 10% and print.  He did a great job and got the plans to me very quickly.  When I am ready I hope to share my build here.

We return once again! The Sablatnig SF 4 blow up arrived in double quick time and is a super copy. I shall be treating it very carefully as it will become wall art when finished with. Even with postage, you are still cheaper than driving to my nearest plan printer.
Thanks again for a 5 star Super Service

This was my first time to use Dave for printing of plans. The first thing I noticed after opening the envelope was the paper quality, heavy, bright white paper with a nice smooth finish - a far cry from most plans you build from. The second thing I noticed was how crisp and clear the line work was. I'm sorry now that I had them sent folded. Something as pretty as this shouldn't be creased.

I'm a happy customer and I'll be back;
Thanks, Dave!

David

Had an email from a fellow I did some printing for. A rather large CAD drawing of a wing design he's working on. He's not a member of the Forum (yet) so I feel compelled to post his email.

Dave,

Received the plans on Saturday, could not ask for a better plotting, line widths are good and my scale shows that the dimensional accuracy is spot on. Thank you for working with me on this and your willingness to share your expertise. As far as the Hip Pocket Aeronautics Builders’ Forum, I have taken advantage of all the great information but neglected to register, will have to do that in the near future.

Thanks,
Thomas Batz

I recently decided I should build a new Bostonian for the fall season.
I selected a few plans from  the Gallery and contacted Ratz about ordering them.
With all the help he provided I shortly had the plans in my hands.
They are great. My problem now is deciding which one to build first.
If you are looking for a new project, check the Plans Gallery and order them
from Ratz. You can't go wrong.

I emailed Dave a jpeg copy of a plan and the paper copy was mailed to me within a few days. I have just received it and the quality is excellent - far better paper than my local print shop and a beautifully crisp image. The only drawback is that it looks far too nice to use for building a model; maybe I'll get a copy made from which to build and have this one framed? Seriously though, thanks for a great service Ratz.

I have used this service a few times now and the results are always good.  I think we get more attention than one might from the local copy shop as regards tidying up and an assurance of accuracy etc.

But one thing does intrigue me!

My local (well 12 miles away) Staples would charge £3.00 for inserting the "stick" to read the pdf. and then £3.00 per sheet.  So the plan I have just had copied (two sheets) would have cost £9.00 plus the petrol etc. to travel - say (UK prices £4.00 minimum.  Dave charged me just under £7.00 including shipping from Canada to the UK and thus an advantage all round.  I think it took about 4 or 5 days to arrive which was probably as quick had I had to go to Staples at a convenient time.  And of course was all done in a few minutes one evening from my chair.

That you Dave.

Dave (Ratz) has printed a number of plans for my use. I used to calculate the wing span and ask Dave to reduce the plan(s) as a percent of the original, standard in the graphics community. I once ordered some plans and forgot to calculate the percent of original and only mentioned the needed wing spans. Without question, Dave did the calculations, fixed any out of place "lines", printed the plans and neatly folded the plans for mailing.
I am very happy with the service that Dave provides. His fees are very reasonable, and the rate of currency exchange is in the favor of the US modeler. I can't say enough about the guy, . . he can't be doing this for the money!

I got the plan for the S Calhoun Smith Sportwagon from Dave. Good heavy paper, the missing wing and tail panels were added at almost negligible cost, and a 3% out of scale problem was corrected. If printed locally, this issue would not show up until much construction was done, and then I would have a real problem.

I am very pleased!

Another happy tribute to Dave (Ratz) and the Hip Pocket Plans Printing Service.  Just received plans for the Lanzo Record Holder, an OT Cabin behemoth that is going to fill up the sky at the Nats next year!  Beautiful Thermic-style flared wing planform, and a flip-up cabin top DT!  Dave kindly cleaned up what was a marginal scan and helped get it to perfect scale.

If you are considering building from any of the plans here, do yourself a favor and send a note to Ratz.  See you at the Nats!

Ive been ordering lots of plans from Ratz lately and wanted to chime in recommending this service.  Plans are first rate, excellent quality.  Very easy to order; just email with the details, use Paypal to purchase and about a week later they show up in your mailbox.

Ive given up trying to use local copy shops, they usually dont have time, dont check for scale, dont clean up the plans, and god forbid if you want them enlarged or reduced.

Ratz does all of that and is a modeler so knows what you want even if you forget to ask.  Highly recommended.

Well I've got about 10 different sets of plans from Ratz now. All have been top notch and worked very well. Ratz also "cleaned up" a few old plans for me so I could read what was on the plans. He even did some decal stuff on heavy paper so all I had to do was cut it out and use it. When I get short run kits I always get the plans from Ratz.

I tried downloading the Vickers/Armstrong Wellington from the plans gallery, but it was too warped to use.  I ordered A copy from Ratz with the request that he correct the distortions and enlarge it 25%.  It arrived completely distortion-free and beautiful!  As mentioned above, I should have ordered two:  One to hang on the wall as artwork and one to build from!

This is the second plan I've ordered, and it won't be the last!

Hi Dave,  Thanks much for the plans for my Pilot kit for the Aeronca "Champion."  I have a bad habit of rolling up folded plans, and in this case I gave away the plans for this kit, unintentionally, rolled up inside the plans for a larger Aeronca.

Now I remember where I put them, but I don't recall who I gave the plans to!   I'm giving the kit to a young man who recently joined our club (Arizona Model Pilots Society, or "AMPS").  Ethan is about 16, and after less than a year he's a better pilot than most of us!  He flys ARFs, and I'm giving him this kit to encourage him to enjoy the building part of our hobby.

Preserving these plans is a blessing, and you are to be commended.

Dave printed Bill Galloway's FSI Chester Jeep enlarged to a 20 inch wingspan from the plan Gallery for me.  2 copy's, one set to work on, the other set for the wall.
I will ditto what others have said about quality of the paper and printing, I would also like to complement Dave on keeping the line quality so that it is not very large or blurry like what other copy companies fail to do when plans are enlarged.
If you are using Hip pocket Aeronautics forum and you're having your plans printed by someone else, you should be ashamed. I have observed that only 3 have commented about the plan service this year. 2020 there were 9. We all should support the forum that we use as much as we can.

Thanks Dave,   for all the work that you do.         Bob

I've sort of lost track of how many plans I have got from Ratz. Always looks great and I get it quick even tho I live in Texas. USPS said they where slowing the mail and yet last set of plans got to me in 8 days. It takes more than 8 days for me to get something from Fort Worth. I've never had any problems with the plans.
