Well, where to start - first I'm not a big user of diesels.
Oliver Tiger - back in production in the UK - best diesel of all time, many would say. Might be a bit expensive, and I don't know for sure if they come with a r/c carb. but check out the Barton forum for more info.

Look under Engine Talk.

The venerable PAW fits the bill, well regarded, rugged, decent output, easy to use. Well priced and available in 2.49 or 3.49cc.

Actually, diesels other than the very small ones, are all pretty easy once you get the knack.

Fresh fuel and tank in the right position, a good mounting, and the right size prop - away you go!

If you can pick one up (eBay or eslewhere) the ED Racer was a good engine (sadly long out of production).

Here is an excellent club site with information about care and feeding of diesels:

I wonder if sgt.akshay ever got his diesel ?

Anyway PAWs are all I have in that size, though I do have few other smaller engines, old DCs, EDs etc. IMO the simple instructions on the PAW site contain just about all you need to know about managing diesels http://www.eifflaender.com/instruct.htm  Though if you're really serious about them you also need a copy of Eric Clutton's "Dr Diesel's Diary" http://www.cafes.net/doctordiesel/

I'm a long time, maybe 50 years, user of diesels and I can do no better than point you to ffkiwi's
post on ' Getting to know your diesel ' on this thread of this forum. Needs a bit of patience though
so there will be no instant gratification but well worth the effort when you get to know your particular
example.

Once you learn the diesel and are comfortable with it then it wont matter what size you run.
I personally like the PAW diesels. I have the Russian made .15 diesels I buy on ebay. they are easy to start and run great once you set up the needle valves.
