You're right, weight scales with the cube,
...but only if you change the thickness of the material you are building with.
The wing square inches should be right on,
...but I would expect the weight to rarely be right on the cube or the square.

...what would you suggest?

Okay. back to the bench.
The plan the parts are laying on is printed on a single 8.5x11" sheet of paper.
The tail end of LaStick is what's left over from the glider I tested.
The wing section is  4" , the dark grey is 3mm and the white is 1mm depron.
The coffee stir straw is brown with a white stripe.
The leading edge is 1/16 x 1/16" balsa backed up with depron.

Do I have any alternatives to paper for covering the wing?
...I'm worried about paper warping that little wing, but I can't iron over the depron.(?)

I added the wing tip and a brace on the other end, and the paper didn't warp the wing.
I didn't thin the paste because the depron might be hard to stick to.
...looks like a lot of thinning will still work.
This would be my first stick and paper wing in half a century.
...last one didn't have any depron or coffee stir sticks.

Comments on how to do it better would be appreciated.

Doesn't weight scale with the cube, and not the square, of the linear dimension. Area should scale with the square of the linear dimension.

Applying this to the LaStick, which is built with 1/16" skin.
1/16" balsa
12"x12"x1/16" = 144/16 = 9in3 (/ .061 = 147.54cm3) = 14.8g/ft2

3mmDepron
12"x12"x1 = .5oz = 14g/ft2
1mm Depron
12"x12"x1 = .25oz = 7g /ft2

If a version is built to a different scale with 1/16" balsa or 3mm depron, I expect the weight to scale to the square.
 
If a version is built to a different scale with 1/32" balsa or 1mm depron, I expect the weight to scale to the square/2.

Right?

So a 37% version of Mike's 65g airframe in (mostly) 1mm Depron would be:
65 x .37 x .37 x .5 = 4.45g

1mm depron vs 3mm depron
1/16" corner brace makes it a lot easier.

I got a Phantom Flash to try and interest my Grandson in Stick and tissue. (Didn't work yet.)
The design has a lot of simplicity to recommend it.
Combining the simplicity of the La Stick wings and tail feathers with the Phantom stick gets me the plan below.
I would bet that someone can refer me to a plan in the gallery that is basically the same, but...
...this will be my test bed.
Do the numbers in oz/sq" and w/lb match flying models?
Is the difference between fat and skinny ailerons noticeable? 
...(Sorry Konrad, but I can't find your thread. you have so-o many posts!!)
U/C models are (were?) built with Flaps connected to the elevator (in reverse).
...will this lower the stall speed?
How much
  washout?
   Dihedral?
When a set of wings can be built and mounted in a couple of hours a lot of things and combinations can be tested.
I think that answering questions will hold my interest a lot longer than "guided free flight"
