Here's how it works Rotary damper as a timer. Can be used on 2,3 or 4 minutes. Great for F1G and P-30 and could be used for A-1. Weight only 2.5 grams. Price for 4 pcs via "Ali express", is with free shipping, 6 Euros. One timer for 1.5 euros.

Those look more user friendly than the ones I've seen being sold for DIY timers, and the weight is good. Can you post some photos of how you modified them for timer usage?

You know it's really weird, this mention of VW and friction wheels, as I call them.
I used to work at Volke, VW's private, independent design house (they do design for BMW, Audi, Porsche, etc. too).
In the stores were boxes and boxes of these wheels in all different colours.  Blue was the stiffest, white the easiest.  I always knew there should be a use for them other than adding damping to all the silly "Teknik" that Veedub and all the others love to slap all over their cars.  I was a design modelmaker for the car industry and clay modeller, but with the tag of "mekaniste" and Kunstler" (artist) I used to get stuck with making the mechanisms, because I was quick to design them and even quicker to make them.  What the Knauder Bruder took 2 weeks over, I'd knock out in a couple of days and fit it.  These little friction wheels were often at the centre of those mechanisms, along with what we all called "fish catches".....push to lock, push to unlock (boxes of them, too).  The reason for the teeth on the wheel is that they usually engaged a cast resin rack for things like ashtrays, glove pockets, etc.
I have no idea how you guys use them as a timer as I have no idea what goes in a FF model beyond a loop o' rubber!

Cheers,
MrTin
