David,
I have just acquired an original Comet SPAD, kit A8, an earlier version of the SPAD kit #3105.  I would judge from the box that it is from the immediate post-WW2 years.  It sold for 10 cents and appears to be a photographically reduced version of the pre-WW2 Comet 16" span dime kit A25.   I have the entire kit except for the wire parts.  It is much lighter than the 1960s-70s kit #3105.

Mark,
   Cool!!  I agree those are a lot lighter than the 3100 series. There was a pair
on Gasoline Alley for both the Spad & D7. Can't recall what they wanted for 'em
but was a good deal. Better than going through ebay.
