Hi all,

I saw the electric RC Fokker F27 twin at HK and thought it would look very nice in the MMA-Ansett delta paint scheme,my RC skills are not up to flying a bomb like that so I decided control line would be better with radio motor control for touch and goes and smoother landings.
The motors are DYS BE2217 1500kv with ZTW AL40A ESC speed controllers, I have wired it for either one or two 2200mah 3s/4s Nanotech Lipos turning the 8x4.5E three blade props counter rotating or 8x3.8E two blade props, weight 1800g with one 2200mah battery.

I have added the scale amount of dihedral to the tailplane by making a tubular alloy spar bent to the correct angle with epoxy and carbon tow forced into the middle inch, for simplicity I fitted twin push rods from the 3 1/2" bellcrank to the elevators using the existing holes in the glass fuselage, the rudder has tin plate hinges so it can have its offset easily adjusted, both the wings and tailplane are stuck on with grey neutral cure automotive silicone the wings having a 4mm steel bolt for added security,I added 1oz of lead to the outside tip and pinned the ailerons in neutral, the under wing lead outs run through drilled 5mm nylon bolts which are adjustable.

The cockpit windows were changed to a little more realistic shape with paint and 3mm white pin striping tape, finally I fitted a twin wheel sprung main undercarriage with a yoke style single wheel front undercarriage and gear doors made from alloy cans spayed grey on the outside stuck on with epoxy.
Things like the MMA orange delta paint scheme and stick on windows will come later, today was meant to be its maiden flight but windy weather put paid to that.

I have taken a clip of its maiden flight but I do not have a U tube account so a couple of stills will have to do for now.
My brother Trevor flies more control line than I so he got the honors for the maiden flight, with only one 2200mah lipo in the nose it was a little sensitive to elevator and gained height with speed so for the next flight we adjusted the lines a little and moved the battery forward as far as I could,a little better but still touchy so I put my other battery a 5000mah in the nose and off she went flying like a dream, for the next flight I removed the rudder offset as the line tension was rather excessive.
Having RC throttle control is very useful and the power is ample flying at 45 degrees is no problem, next I will put in a couple of servos and use the ailerons as flaps to slow down the landing speed
No problems apart from the nose wheel bulkhead breaking when the first landing was a little fast on grass,it still stood up for the rest of the session, next time we will fly over concrete.
The other shot is Trevor flying an All American Sr with a Fox 35

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil, Thanks for the photos and additional information. Please let me know if you find anything else out about operating it and if you ever get video of it. All the best, Mike
