Tom...I saw the stalls also. But looking closely at the wings I didn't see any wing fences. The Japanese model has a thrust vector in the exhaust outlet also. Very inspiring video of that aircraft. Got my plan for the Srull Mig printed at 27" span. Hope to start this weekend.
I think this is the airfoil for the Japanese Mig 15 Sky9pilot

I know this isn't Don's Mig 15 but it blows me away that this can be built and fly so well... Sky9pilot
I have seen this one, and am familiar with the work of Kaz Suzuki...he is no one to compare with...Jiro Sugimoto is another one. They are one a level that exceeds my desires as a common balsa butcher. Don McClellan on the other hand did a very admirable job of a Mig with a rubber ducted fan...he has way more lead in his pencil than I do!

I had a modeling friend who traveled to Japan often, spoke the language and who attended some of the meets and fun flys you see in the videos. After seeing those exquisite little flying machines, he declared the motto of the Japanese modelers should be "Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess".

That is a very large jet at 27" wingspan

Here are some pics of a perfectly imperfect Mig-15... I am happily unhappy with this thing! this is the "carrot" in my golden ring on & on...next to take her out for a date out in the tall grass, and see if she can spin like her older sister did.... Oh there is a Walter Mitty in the pilots seat BTW

Looks great Crabby... is the vertical stab left with the gap to the fuselage for adjustments of the horizontal stab's incidence? Sky9pilot

I took the magazine scan of the Srull Mig 15 and used my CAD to redraw and blow it up to 27". I decided to use reed for the fuselage formers and will do some reinforcement around the wing root area. I'm using a carbon fiber arrow shaft as a jig to skewer the foam board patterns with the reed on them. I've used 1/16" SQ stringers for keels on the dorsal, ventral and two horizontal keels each side. The remainder stringers will be 1/16"X 1/32" balsa. I made a foam jig to hold the arrow shaft while attaching the stringers. I'll fill the two nose bays with soft balsa for some strength in this area and at the wing roots. I also plan to fill the fuselage on each side at the trailing edge of the wing to hold for launching. After attaching almost twenty stringers I took a break, will finish later tomorrow.
I'm posting here rather than start a new thread Crabby...hope it's ok. I'll start my own thread if you prefer! Here's a few pics... Sky9pilot

Got the stringers on the fuselage and some cross member trusses in the fuselage. The two wing panels, one sanded. started the planking on the nose. Whew...that's going to be a job! Got the noseblock attached. Sky9pilot

Got tired of planking so I built the empennage. Here's a few pics of the mockup. Still a lot of planking to finish on the fuselage. But I like the empennage so far! Sky9pilot

Well my building mojo has returned and I got the planking and sanding of the nose of the fuselage done. I also added the exhaust fairing under the vertical stab. Which after reviewing pictures of the actual aircraft will need some trimming. I can see from the pictures I also need some additional washout in the wingtips. Here's the pictures of the latest progress. Sky9pilot

Made some more progress today...covering is done and the wings got attached today along with the vertical stab. I won't mount the horizontal stab till it's painted and panel lines are added. Much easier that way. Got the gun blisters for the canon and machine guns done and mounted. Sealed with thinned white glue. Will sand and give a second coat to seal them before painting. I've decided to go with a silver and red scheme also but a bit different from Crabby's.

Finally got my mojo back and started to make some progress on the Mig... so here's some shots of the silver paint applied. I should have covered it in black tissue. The silver would have covered better. I'll let her dry for a day and then the red will go on. Sky9pilot

Lifting tail is probably a great idea! Silver looks good... I covered mine in black as an experiment, I have seen others do that, no matter which way you go, it takes a shot and a beer to steady the nerves! Mine came out pretty well as long as I stay with my promise to always love imperfection!

Hi Crabby and Don, excellent modelling here On my Hughes I did two test samples with black and dark blue Esaki underneath. Dark blue is giving an even better appearance once sprayed with silver. But how does your paint stick to the tissue? Mine is extremely delicate, if I put a piece of masking tape on it, it peels off the paint. The Esaki was given two coats of dope before spraying. How does yours behave Urs

What brand and number silver did you shot. I've never had luck putting tape on silver so it is typically the last color to go on. I usually shoot Model Master airbrushed with lacquer thinner. Also use DuPont high temperature thinner for airbrushing.

Thanks fellas...the silver I'm using is Krylon Metallic Shimmer, the number is 2338 Nickle Shimmer. I finished the Esaki tissue with EzeDope spritzed (30/70 water/EzeDope) after applied with gluestick. Once that was dry I applied two additional coats of EzeDope thinned 50/50 water/EzeDope with a brush. Tip...do not shake up the EzeDope the bubbles will ruin the finish. If you do shake it, let it settle till the bubbles dissipate. I let this dry 24 hrs between coats.
I painted the silver and let it dry for a day and a half. I've applied masking tape and it's handled the tape very well. Peals off without disturbing the paint.
