Aemacchi jet crash rebuild

Well as the quote says gravity sucks and it sure did for me recently.
It was a beautiful morning with clear blue sky and light winds, when suddenly whilst completeing a high rollover turn and pulling out of a dive an elevator control rod let go and I had to watch in horror as she went into a nearby paddock.
A couple of flying friends helped me recover all the bits and it sure looked like this bird would have to be binned.
After arriving back home and after telling the wife the sad news and finishing a coffee and went back out to my man cave and after deciding I really loved this model i decided to give it a go and try repairing it.
Firstly i completely cut off the entire front of fuselage and then after cutting some ply formers and hot wire cutting some foam bits things were starting to look quite good again.
The  cockpit canopy had been destroyed beyond salvage so after finding an old friend had a canopy from a crashed extra 3D plane that was similar shape but far too wide, I decide to have a go at reshaping it over s former whilst in my oven. Bingo it worked so a new lower panel was fabricated from balsa and the canopy recut to suit my model.
I have now completed sheathing the new areas in fiberglass and begun repainting the repaired areas. The result is better than new, much lighter and stronger!

From the look of the "before" shot, I would have said she was a gonner, but man you sure did her right!  Good on you!

I have to agree with Glenn. Its amazing what can be rebuilt/restored if you are really keen.

I hope it flies as well as it did before. Is it a slopie?

Hi John, no it is powered with a 90mm Jetfan EDF running on 6 cells.
The link below will take you to its maiden flight whilst still using the origional FlyFly EDF.
Flys much quicker now and has a sound like a real turbine.
