This weekend I decided to build a relatively resilient chuck glider to take on a camping trip next weekend a quick Google resulted in building a thermal scout having not done any chuck glidering I'm hoping this will lead to more, the quick build has been fun.

Dave, any pics of it? How is it flying? I printed out the plan for the thermal scout and wanted to build it for ages... In my opinion, it has a pleasant shape.

My club had a yearly thermal scout comp (until the farmer we rent our patch off decided to put crops in the surrounding fields). I won the club trophy for a year after my first scout dissappeared out of sight in, yes, a thermal! It became an instant legend and is still talked of in hushed tones to this day. The second one I built was not half as good..oddly. Nice little design and really robust but I found getting it to roll off the top a pain.

Hi yes I meant to post one it should be attached this is my first attempt and I think a tad to robust but I had fun and some long glides till the fuselage broke but it's gluing up now. I have no benchmark as to seeing one of these models flying properly I have no idea how to launch it or what it should do thereafter but it's fun all the same.

looks great. With the bright red colour, you have good chances to find it on the tree or in the grass

Alas, it is I! I whipped one out this morning! Test glides are OK but maybe needs some "spiral control".

Nice effort IW. How is the trimming going? BBdave - what happened to yours? It has probably gone to Valhalla or the hall of vanquished gliders by now Happy New Year John

Hey! I know it's been years, but after trimming it out, my Thermal Scout has been the perfect trainer for the young neighbor kids and my dad. I have had to fix it a fair amount of times, but I managed to keep it all this time

They are good fun and it's good to hear that you are still flying it. it sounds like it has really earned it's keep!
I always have a couple of my 300WS CLG's on hand.
Cheers, John

It definitely has. I've thermalled it more than once too. I should rig it for a DT I also painted a galaxy on it. I should really post pictures here more
