I have just finished building Edge 540 NoCal short kit from P.T.Aviation.
http://ptaviationmodels.com/

This kit is a 'SHORT' kit, so need to prepare some balsa sticks.
I used 1.6mm sq wood for fuse and stab, and 1.8mm sq wood for wing spars, all 5-7 lbs hobby shop wood.

I modified the bearing (sheet brass) like Harlan's. Harlan bearings are precision sawn and that's the reason why they are the BEST. My bearing is just only snipped open the end.

I changed the prop to a lighter one because I don't like shaving it. Green prop is TSUBAME 15cm and cut the tip to 14cm.
The finished model was too nose heavy, so I had to glue tail weight. With about 0.8grams tail weight, the model weighs about 6.0g now. It will become 6.2g or so at the flight test stage.

I have done the maiden flight on 31 March at Kawasaki Marien, 9 meters ceiling gym.
I was surprised that my Edge liked fwd C/G location, about 18mm without rubber (perhaps 20mm or so with rubber). So, I could remove some tail weight and it became 5.56g.
I took the video and uploaded it to Youtube.

The only time you want Guillow's balsa, is when its worth its weight in gold!

Today I flew my Edge540 again at a higher ceiling, 18.8 meters, gym this time.
I uploaded the video here :

Both of those flights were great to watch, nice job on the build.  I have built a few low wing no-cals, and when they fly to the left, with the rubber on the right side, they always go straight at the end.

Hello Aki

How time flies--did not realize your Edge model thread is already 4+ years old!

I am just starting a build of this kit--it is quite complete, coming with select balsa strips sized for the indoor version.  I noticed there is no CG location specified on the plan, but a simple Tail volume calculation and your notes are helpful in setting an initial balance point.  I will use a different prop as well, probably a built up balsa one.

An interesting feature of my kit are the two pieces of stripwood for the upper(canopy area) and lower fuselage--the end of each strip is "pre-sliced" on the centerline to facilitate forming the necessary bend.  The printed tissue is nicely done, but I will use a different color scheme on white Kuranai tissue (9 grams/sq m)

I had to cut the box open, along its length; one of the short balsa strips had stuck to the side of the box, along a "sticky" seam!
