Received this via the post last Friday so opened the box up tonight to make a start.

Clearly it's very, very influenced by one of my favourite oddball planes, the Rutan Varieze. (There is actually a Varieze catapult glider in the HPA archive - http://www.hippocketaeronautics.com/hpa_plans/details.php?image_id=2879 - but it's strangely inaccurate with a central fin, and large dihedral endplates on the canard).

The sheet pieces are nice, but the stick parts (two, fuselage top and bottom) are not so nice - evidence of really crumbly delamination in the exposed ends. I've dumped a load of aliphatic resin into the voids in an attempt to try and fill them with something sandable.

Another irritation - the plan isn't actually to scale. This doesn't seem too bad on first glance but it looks like if you are fitting a hook for cat launch then you have to shape the hook yourself and obviously were the plan to scale that's a lot easier to do. I might end up epoxying a panel pin into the fuze bottom as I've discovered that my first attempts with dress making pins bent to shape and superglued in don't last long enough.

I don't like plain, bare wood gliders with no detailing so am thinking of adding a little bit of paint detailing to model (word "model" used very, very loosely here...) this one, HB-YCM. Not sure I'll paint the fuze grey like the original but certainly will be adding the Swiss flag fins, and the registration number.

Glad you showed the VariEze like you did along with the Cessna 195 in the background. Good luck with your project.
