The World Champs is up and running in Hungary, with F1C being the first event.
81 Competitors, 30 maxed out.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found the name Tony Matthews in the listing - going back to his roots, I guess.
China and France both have full teams in the fly off. My good friends Ken Faux and Alan Jack made it for the UK, with Yury Shvedenkov flying the flag for Canada.

Could you post a link that will provide results for the 2017 WC?

But Facebook is updated faster. In F1C, 29 to the fly-offs. First flyoff in 2 groups, the second round was flown about an hour ago - no results yet. In teams, China and France with full score (so they decide gold and silver), and bronze goes to GB.

For the German speaking community Wibke Seifert writes an up to date blog on the Thermiksense. If you dont speak German at least you can enjoy the pic's  Cheesy

http://www.thermiksense.de/index.php/wm-blog-2017-f1abc-ungarn.html

And Roger Morell writes under the SEN label straight from the field.

Google translate works okay on the page. I get the gist and some of the translation is amusing.

Way to go Yury for Canada. I noticed that Ed Carroll of USA had a double overrun for a zero in one round. Man that stinks. Hopefully it was obvious and not a nitpicking timer issue. One of the challenges of power flying for sure.

I'm not entirely certain, but I think that Yury is Canada's first Free Flight World Champion.

All the gen's here http://www.freeflightnews.org.uk/champs/mast.htm. I had a quick scan for Canadians in the medals...

Silver individual
B Avory, A, 1963
P Allnutt, A, 1975
T Mathews, B, 1991

Bronze individual
M Burns, C, 1975
D O'Grady, B, 1979
D Rowsell, B, 1991
T Mathews, B, 1993

I know Canada got the the Team gold in B in 1993 but I have searched for other Canadian Team medals.

Odd. The link opens on my iPad. Charlie Jones is only team USA member in flyoff. Andruikov dropped the fifth round with a 108. Bad launch maybe? I'm sure there is a story there.

I started this thread under 'Power' but today it's F1B, of course.

112 Entries, 42 into the fly-off, and some big names NOT in the fly off;
Andriukov, Matthews, and Gorban all missed.
Paul Lagan, Christian Schwartzbach and Russel Peers are in though.
Full teams in the fly off; Israel, Lithuania and Serbia.

Thanks for keeping us all updated John.
Also of interest for Canada is that Jama (Well known Canadian F1A flyer and last year's world cup holder) is clean along with Ladi in F1B. Why is Jama flying and not Cameron (Jama must be flying Cameron's airplanes which are all AA F1Bs) ... interesting situation. Hope they do well in the fly offs.

That is interesting Bernard. There are always tales to tell at a world championship.  Sounds like the conditions are tricky and hot!

I hope to volunteer the next time the Champs are in the USA. It would be nice to witness it at least once before the whole thing shrivels up and....

Unofficial F1B results as posted on FB by Tamas Horvath.   Ladi Horak in 4th!  First in F1C. 4th in F1B. Impressive results so far Team Canada!

I just received the latest SCAT news. Roger reports that the first round was stopped, the flightline moved and then the round re-flown!  That's a new one.

No, extremely bad air. The only Finnish guy to drop out of fly-off (Waltonen) went in the same air, as did Sweden's Eimar. The story as I was told is that there was a large number of people ready to launch, and the weather stations indicated good air. So there were a few people launching, all look good, so many others followed. And then it turned out to be a huge mistake to all of them.

Yeah. Mind you, without that bummer moment, the Finnish Team would have been all with full score, and then the sky would have been the limit! (only 3 teams made it all to the FO.)

Some news from the flight line: Ladi are in fourth in F1B and would have done better but he had a bad launch and lost a lot of height in the climb. Bummer. Still, this is his best WC result! Next time!!

Tony maxed in the lost first round but after it was cancelled he then dropped the next round with a bad prop stall ... he does not know what happened.

Jama was flying one of the spare models of Ladi's (an old Elena .... very reliable design that is easy to fly)...Cameron was sick and so bowed out.

...now waiting to see how Jama does in A.

Tony made the first round max that was then cancelled then dropped the refly of the first round?  If so, that really stinks!  I'm sure there will be plenty of discussion on why the first round was cancelled midway.
A big bummer that Cameron was sick. Bad timing (not that there is a good time to be sick!) for sure.

Looking at the F1A rounds it looks like the wind has had great effect. Several contestants didn't get a flight off in a round. It happened  to WC Mike McKeever.

That's it for another couple of years, then. Congrats to the winners of course, it seems to have been a tricky champs in terms of weather conditions.
