Hey guys, thought you'd be interested in a silkspan alternative we have always used with dope.  The discussion and manufacturers are on the Stunthanger site.  There are two links that are appropriate for this subject for those that still use dope and tissue like I do.

1) https://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/world-shortage-of-silkspan-ended-frank-d-nominated-for-'hero-of-the-reich'/

2) https://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/butt-tissue-paper-question/

Enjoy!

I purchased some and although I have only covered dry the fuselage looks just fine.  When I get the wing completed I will try covering it wet.  You sure can not beat the price!

Not sure if this is the same K&S stuff we grew up with. But it looks like silkspan is available again from normal hobby retailers.

Cut it twice and it's still too short!

Yes the material is still available but the BIG difference is cost.  I got, from Amazon, 1 box of McKesson #18-1004 that had 12 rolls each with 21" x 25' of the paper for $26.  It does seem to work well dry and takes dope like I remember.  I wish I was near some other modelers as one roll would be a lifetime supply!

Here's a thread on Stunthanger with photos of wings covered in the Dr. Paper:

I am way up in the wilds of NE texas.  I could meet you in Sherman as I go there to shop at Sam's Club sometimes.  Just pay me some gas money, if that works.  Pm me for a phone number.

I have been using Easybuilt silkspan not exactly the same but close enough. Works great wet or dry.
