For our UK friends,
I am finishing an Aeronca Champ with a Telco motor. Decided to do the attached color scheme. Are there routinely registration markings on the top of the wing, or only on the bottom of the left wing? Can’t find any pictures of this aircraft that show the top of the wing.
Thanks!,
Mike

They should be on the top of the opposite wing too. Nice choice of subject and scheme!

Cheers,

Dan.

Although maybe not in this case as googling the reg gives a few views with a clear top wing. (At some point it acquired a cheeky smile though!)

Thanks gentlemen! Think I will skip the “cheeky” part!

That's baffling. I thought upper wing markings were mandatory! Strange...

Cheers,

Dan.

I should be doing something else, but instead I was curious and did an "advanced search" on the following site:
https://abpic.co.uk
I used "Aeronca Champion" for the type, and "UK" for the country. I saw a lot of Champs without reg numbers on the top of the wing, with the exception of one with a Belgian registration.

A registration number search on "G-ATHK" shows 17 pictures, 12 of which are this color scheme, 14 if you count the smile. Two other color schemes are shown as well.

What's with the odd rudder?  Maybe they got tired of making repairs from landing hard on the tailwheel!

With regard to Registration markings: here in the U.S. depending on the aircraft's vintage, a plane when repainted, can have a different combo of markings, ie small side numbers, without wing markings, but if you want to use the original style factory painted markings, that's ok too.  Later acft, not "grandfathered" in, may still need to have large (12") fuselage markings.  I suspect a similar allowance is permitted with regard to G-registrations.  "Buzz numbers" work best on the wing underside  Roll Eyes

Make the same mistake on both sides; nobody will notice...

Interesting. Didn’t notice the rudder difference until now.

Glad the particular plane i’m modeling  doesn’t have letter on top of the wing. Saves me a step!

Working on the lettering and windshield (ugh!). Hope to have pictures in a few days.
