I'm afraid it is; an amalgam of Benjamin Magit's kit, the Micro-X plan, and changes i wanted to make.

I've been kindly sent a lot of info from an EAA member who corresponded with William Fike in the 70's: got some very nice photos, which has helped to make it more accurate.

Very deliberate, very precise - well done!  I love the landing gear detail.  I have Fike plans printed out awaiting some attention, as well as banana oil, starting to feel more and more inspired already!  ')

Thanks for sharing!

Fike finis!

It's never going to set the world on fire, but nice enough as a fun flyer for our local monthly indoor small(ish) hall sessions

Great! Love the clean paint finish. What paint did you use in the end?
Keep us updated on the trimming process. I imagine it will be reasonably stable even without dihedral?

Wow!  If any of my models ever turned out that nice I'd be afraid to fly them!   Tongue

Nice work!

Thanks Guys!

Jon,

The lack of dihedral doesn't seem to affect the Fike/Lacey layout. My last one wouldn't even stall properly: would just rock its wings and mush.

The paint is Humbrol gloss yellow enamel straight out of the tin, thinned with the SWS automotive thinner (basically a cellulose thinner) i mentioned in the 'banana oil' thread, and airbrushed.

As it's a gloss finish (a bit too gloss, actually; the spraying process normally kills this a bit, especially over partially porous banana oiled esaki, but not in this case  Sad), the markings are home made decal carry-overs from my original electric Fike. They're printed on clear decal stock with a laser printer to make them waterproof without a clear overcoat.

Graham Banham kindly sent me a collection of his File photo's and 3 view.   Amongst them, of from the internet, I have found a front view of the uncovered aeroplane.

Does anyone have a side view of the uncovered fuselage?

If there is one I would be grateful for a copy.

The Fike sure looks more simple to me than the Lacy M-10. I like more simple stuff.

Actually, it isn’t but there’s not much to choose between the two!

I’ve done a better one since:
