Bill A negative score can be arranged - but as you will be sunning yourself on foreign soil, whilst the white heat of competition is occuring in Walsall, it wouldn't make any difference to your final placing. Proxy flying not allowed either.
Jon True it aint in the rulebook, but I could refer the KS judges to this thread. Or as CD I can make a local rule for the day, if deemed necessary and guess who decides if it is necessary?

John, I really like your approach. Leaving up to the modeller to decide on what he does and then accepting the demerits for his decision is a good approach. As Andy says read the rules and do not attempt to stretch them. I have painted kit scale models and added details full knowing there will a penalty. It is still fun flying them. Ricky

Is that right, Bill? Are you missing the indoor nats? Or is John just suggesting that for the crime of painting your KS model you should hide out in Brazil, Ronnie Biggs style? (Just for a few years until the heat dies down a bit.)

Afraid so Pete. Caught out by the late Easter holiday. A shame because I think it could be a good one. I particularly wanted to see if the Open events recover from last year.

I've finished all the wooden bits - just need to sand the spats so they match! This lot weighs 8.57g. I'm going to weigh at every stage to try and pinpoint when it rockets from 8g to 20g and thence upwards.

Sorry I won’t be working with you this year Bill, have a great break.
Could you break the weight down for each component? I have one of this in my project list, but is an early replikit version.
Cheers Ian

I will be interested to see how this develops Bill because I have carried out a similar exercise, almost at one stage thinking Imhad cracked it, and then suddenly the weight rockets. I think that I may have been a little too generous with dope and finishing.
I am going for the Keelbild Lysander which has more timber and I am also wondering about dispensing with the KS requirements and indulging myself with some “mods” - like some extra but leaner stringers without locating notches .....although there are lots of “extras” on the plan which can thus be included without penalties?

Mike, I've gone through your build and can't see how you attached the wings. Did you stick them to the canopy or cut the canopy away to let the wings stick to the wood?

Bill I made a simple jig to position the wing roots and glued them directly to the canopy with RC56 (my favourite stuff!) The jig was a U shape that slipped over the canopy, (relieved for the taper of the canopy), braced down to the U/C legs , and with extensions out each side to hold the wings at the correct dihedral to mount the struts. Everything held in place with Tamiya tape (another one of my favourite things)
The plan shows 2 hulking great pieces of iron across the fuselage which are completely unnecessary and just add to the weight problem. Some predicted that not having joiners would be an issue in the event of an 'arrival' but the truth is that if you keep things light you don't have those kinds of arrival!

Just about done. It's a bit crummy but I'm pleased - it looks nice. I had to give it a light spray of black, which weighed 0.7g. It just needs a prop and plug and weighs 17.4g Remember, if anyone in the UK wants to do one, Mike sent me some canopies. Yes the front ring is the wrong colour.

Your weight is quite good by the look of things. My Keelbild is 20gms without a finish, motor and prop.

Really impressive. The video starts part-way through the flight - do you remember what the total flight time was?

I hope that's a mole's eye view though a fisheye lense and it is only 10 foot off of the ground! Great flight!

Very sorry to disappoint but yes we did start videoing late. Flight was a bit over a minute. This was actually one of the shorter flights as the free wheel jammed up on the glide. I put a longer motor in soon after this flight and this allowed 1400 turns without any fuss. 4 strands of 1/16 braided. This has really ended up being one of the most surprising and satisfying things I've ever built.
