i am now working on a guillows laser cut kit and what a marvelous treat.  the wood it light well fitting and goes together licketty split.  a real joy, i have the fuselage almost established in about 2 hours  here are photos of the assembly and i'm showing how i attached the tail wheel post.  i cut the black foam from food cartons. because i use watery wood glue pinning is involved

you'll notice the Norfolkian tricks, i'm getting rid of all plastic parts. the extra wood up front, should also help with the ballasting of the plane.

VALUABLE LESSON NEWBIES  laser cutting ids precise so when you get parts that mate, ie., a keel to a former, to let it slip in easy cut the slot for it a hair wider so it just drops in. other wise you'll need to apply pressure and that can force parts to break or go out of alignment.

 Grin   progress so far

fuselage strung
tail feathers built
wing frames started.

good progress for one day  pay attention to the wood nose.  balance now is near leading edge of wing  lots of room to move it back to where it should be.  this nose won't shatter on forst flight which is why i get rid of plastic parts.

Grin  well the wings are now build and guillows gave me the bird! the falcon thing did not fit in the saddle --how about that!  I was able to cut some out of the TE so now it fits fine but will have to make sure the joints are sound. you can see how it is coming together. also reinforced the center section and increased the dihedral to 2 3/4 from 1 3/4 inches  for each panel.

i changed the prop from 7 inches to 9 inches

Grin   i've put tuff skin on the inner wing panels and on the fuselage where the wing sits . the tissue i apply next ain't coming off
the spinner and  knobs at the L E  are carved from foam and have been applied
i've also covered the LE with tuff skin where i will drill for the .50 cal guns.

balance appears to be bang on. all that's left to do is the belly fairing.

Grin  here are the finished pictures of the model

she flies but i need to add down-thrust and slight down elevator . guillows decals are TERRIBLE Athey don't stick and fall apart easil;y.

i flew it in the back yard under low power,. she headed straight for a tree about 50 feet away  just before she hit, she climbed and flew over the top landing safely on the other side. yes P 40s really do have eyes.
