Grin  well cloudsters construction has started on the twin p40

the plan is from a guillows 500 series p40 e blown up 129%. to do this take yer plan to a copier, fold it in half to 8 1/2 x 11 and upsize to 11 x 17. you will need the construction side to get the wings and tail.  the other side showing the full side view of the p 40 will be needed to do the fuselage and the nacelles.

i am using the pictures from the NEVINGTON AIR MUSEUM  to approximate the shape of the fuselage . a link to this site is in my " looking for plans " blog on the twin.

should be fun.

I am sure that you have seen the plastic model build over at: https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/threads/p-40-twin.38575/ where he put together some 3-views. It is interesting to read some of their thoughts about it being cobbled together as some kind of a joke by the aircraft mechanics and was never intended for flight. One of the things about it is that it does not have those pesky wing fairings to simulate.

Grin  yes i am thinking Angry along these line and am very much aware of getting weight aft to balance it. two things i intend to do is foam for the nose and minimal weight for the nose blocks in the nacelles.

I will have the same problem on my build Jim. The booms will be so light I will probably have to add weight to the tail end.

Grin finally got off my keester and got this done, wings and elevator. you will see two black marks on each wing that's where the centerline of the engines will go.

Grin back on the job..the boat ride was fun
pic 1 this shows the nacelle fitted to the center of the wing to show that it is as wide as the fuselage would be if it were part of the fuselage.
pic 2 shows a view showing the box from the side. i stiffened the frame by doubling up the front former position.
pic 3 shows head on view .ahead of the LE  is straight back is curved
pic 4 shows the block  on the LE so nacelle attaches square to the center-line.
pic 5 shows nacelle in position under wing.  frame ain't square but when u build as u go what can u expect

Grin the first nacelle is finished and i will use it to make the patterns for the second one.  the power line runs just under the wing so i don't have to cut the leading edge to make room for the rubber.. the models show a higher power line so we'll see how this works.  i have started a second nacelle. here are the pics.

Grin  here are the engines mounted to the wings with 5 inch props so there is clearance in the center,  the weight is quite far forward s balancing it will be fun.  the weight of the fuselage will be to the rear so we'll see where it all finishes.

Hi Jim!  Thanks for the nice pics again.   Wink   I really enjoy reading and watching your builds.  Grin  You seem to be able to make every model fly well!   Cool
