Now, it is just a matter of waiting for some decent weather to have some flight

Looks really super Marco, you've captured the essence of the original - without paint, which makes it more the lovelier.

Good luck with the flying!

Beautiful Marco, I think that cat of yours could jump up from the couch, no problems!

Hi Marco.   That is a beautiful Mig 3.  Cool   And thank you for the baby pics at the different flying angles, which really bring the model to life.   Shocked
PS   I would be worried about that cat jumping straight up too ...   Smiley

A very nice model Marco. You have not told us the finished weight and wing loading but I doubt you could have built it much lighter.

Well done Marco - atmospheric finish.

The Cat is probably in the Sun above your model waiting to pounce Smiley

Thanks to all for the kind words.
Just a couple of remarks.
1. the cat is not an issue - as long as he grabs my planes, that's fine. But if he would dare to jump on the sofa to reach my model....then he would have an argument with my wife, and that would be really, really dangerous for him
2. I do not have a scale, so I do not know what is the weight of the model. However, it is balancing nicely where I set the CG by design. The nose is long and the spinner has not been carved inside. It is a bit like cheating, but not so much.
3. yes, it is really nice to build from scratch, starting from the design of the plans. It gives the feeling of 'owning' the model.

The weather is not really nice, in these days. But I am confident that I will be able to do some throw by the next weekend

See you soon

Outstanding project with very nice craftsmanship all around. You should be righteously proud of this project.

...And now for the unasked question...

Would you consider making your plan available to the forum? I'd love to build and fly that model, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

It's hard to find a scale project with such excellent proportions, and this one looks really good.

Maybe if I add "Please".

Just using some feline persuasion, but, yes; I'd really like to build it.

GReg,
I would be honoured to publish the plan; but only if you promise to build it !
It would take some time, though. I drafted it for me, so I cut so many corners...

Promise given, and I'm so glad I asked. By all means, please take your time and do it as you see most satisfactory,

In the meantime, I'm printing out the Bruning plan at 133%/24in as a warmup. His 18" plan at 92%/16.5" works out to 1/24th scale. Your 24" plan at 69% ends up the same 1/2in scale.

I wish Mr. Bruning would modify his Macchi MC-202 into an MC-205.

Really enjoyable video. too. Red Army Choir?

Hi all.
I have been able to do a couple of trim flights. The plane looks promising. Motor is two loops of 1/8", twice the length from hook to motor peg. Flying during lunch break, several comments from my work colleagues....

Model recovered undamaged...
The model is flying with no additional ballast, the usual bit of downthrust and righthrust.
I shall tighten the turn a bit and I think I will add a bit of up elevator - but I shall move to a bigger field first ! All in all, I am very happy with the initial performances

back soon,

Marco

Excellent!  Congrats on the successful flights, looks like you'll definitely need a bigger field!

Very nice. It may end up not needing any further trimming as you increase power. Congrats!
