After the busy-ness of building two scale WWI models, I wanted a break with something simpler.  And, after the multi-model test flights I did yesterday, something that would be easier to fly then my scale attempts so far.

Introducing my take on the Howard Littman "Satellite".

This is likely going to be a short build thread as the model is indeed "Simple".

Photo #1: Unpackaging. First impression very favorable. The laser cutting is crisp and clean, wood quality seems good and the hardware bag has all the appropriate bits. The pre-printed Superlight tissue is indeed Superlight, and the printing is very crisp and clear.  The plans are a delight, very well drawn, complete with clear instructions. Also included is a tips help sheet with isometric sketches to help with assembly.  I especially like that an assembly square and dihedral spacer are included in the laser cut sheets.

Photo #2 & #3: Side and top view of the fuselage with F5-F6-F7 installed. I meant to take a picture before adding the second side but alas, senior moment. I really like the interlocking tabs, it makes alignment of the sides so much easier!

Photo #4: A minor issue has temporarily derailed assembly. I appear to need to add a couple slots to the rear of the fuselage sides. Not a big thing, a couple minutes with a needle file should do it
I apologize for the sideways pics, can't seem to get them rightway up?

Or you could just cut the upper tabs off of F9 and glue the former to the inside face of the fuselage side. The tabs at the bottom of F9 are sufficient to locate the former.

I thought about that Indoorflyer, but then I thunk maybe the tabs were there for a reason? Anyway, It took less than 2 minutes with a needle file to make the slots and call it good.

I told folks this was likely going to be a very quick built. Smiley

Photo #1: Landing gear wire bent to shape.

Photo#2 & #3:  A couple views of the fuselage assembly. A couple of small bits to add.

More photos later today, I promise.

But first I want to give a shout out to Howard Littman. A fantastic person to deal with, one who stands behind his product.  I had a slight issue with a couple of parts, gave him a call, and he took care of the issue immediately.  I will definitely be buying from him again!

Sorry about the delay. Had an issue with my knee that sidelined me for a couple days.

As I work with this kit I'm continually impressed with the thought and engineering that has gone into its production. I especially like the tab and slot design.

Pic #1 & #2 Wing construction. Here is where the tab and slot really shines. Carefully align the leading and trailing edges to the plan and the ribs slot right in. For beginning  or young modelers this is great.  And I'll admit that I secretly enjoyed it myself.  And the quality laser cutting ensured a snug fit of the ribs into the slots.

Little bit more on the Satellite. In this picture I was checking out the dihedral gauges.  I need to sand the leading and trailing egdes to shape before joining the wing halves.

Pic #2 is the stab assembly. Again tab n slot simplifies everything!

Time for the obligatory bare bones shots

Just needs final sanding with 320-400 and then will be ready for covering. Weight with everything except covering is 18g.

IMHO it is a great kit for the price. Sort of a model builders version of brain candy. If it flies as good as it looks then it's a win-win!
