Hi all!

I built the original 16" span Whimsey bipe 5 or 6 years ago from the plan on here. I was so pleased with it that I've had an urge for a bigger CO2 version ever since. After various delays, frustrations and cock ups on other current builds, I couldn't resist any longer...

Ratz did me an enlarged copy of the plan (My local copy shop is hardly ever open when I'm not at work) and it arrived from Canada in 4 days! I'm hoping to keep the weight down to around 100g for GM300 power. The 30" Dumas Gipsy Moth weighs 130-odd with kit wood and a lot more structure, so I reckon it's do-able. It is BIG, though! 12" Ruler in the pic for scale. I'm plotting colour schemes already...

Cheers,

Dan.

Just over 24". I've used my stash of superb Balsa Cabin wood, so I have high hopes. The small one is a great flier! Strictly to plan so far; the only mods will be for the CO2 conversion and detachable wings. I'm leaning towards pink and purple...

Cheers,

Dan.

The wheel spats are all that remains of a half built Skylake Waco. It got utterly annihilated in the last house move...

No dramatic progress, but a lot of fiddly stuff done today. Motor, tank and filler mounted, the beginnings of the removable cowl and a pair of wheels made. Typically, nowhere in my large stash of salvaged bits, kit spares etc. was there a pair that were the right diameter and the right width!

Cheers,

Dan.

Now we are cooking on the environmentally friendly fuel of your choice! I think I'm just going to make it one piece. Even if I do detachable wings, it will still need a bloody enormous transport box, so I may as well save the weight...

Cheers,

Dan.

Pondering colour schemes. I have some nice Perkins pink tissue and a load of Tamiya purple... Either that or pale green and black or copper. I fear scallops may be involved, too.

Cheers,

Dan.

Fishy scales, surely?
Or a scheme like the enemy fish submarines on Stingray?

I like Bills idea of fish scales but the design is very Dick Dastardly to my eyes so pink and purple sounds good to me

I'd obviously blanked out exactly how many pieces of tissue it takes to cover a biplane with spats and tip dihedral...

And I love the way it's got a 'scale' instrument panel.

Cheers all! Onward to the lengthy process of steaming everything and pinning it all down next.
