And is the AM/MA designs event cancelled too?

EDIT: Okay, I've now read the brief in the email from Doug Hunt.

Well that's a shame. Why not hold an unofficial one instead?

Chris, I've just forwarded it to you. I'd post the relevant bit on here but I'm a bit scared to (which is ridiculous I know).

I've not had the e-mail yet. That is a shame, I enjoyed the comp. It was fun.

Oh blow it, this is silly. The STC must want people to know which events are and aren't on, so why not post it here? The relevant bit in the emailed update says...

"It is with great regret that the STC has decided to pull their Scale competitions out of the 2020 FF Nats. The entry fees proposed by the FFTC were considered by the STC to be excessive and a request for a sensible reduction made to the FFTC was refused. Further negotiations are planned by the STC to obtain a more appropriate entry fee for the competition next year.

The STC is currently researching alternate venues and dates for the cancelled competitions. Please subscribe to the website to obtain a reminder when new information is posted.
"

Presumably here was an earlier email too though, that I somehow didn't get, where I was asked what I'd be prepared to pay to enter.

Hopefully with good reason?
I've not seen the full word on the rule changes yet ... indoor or out. So many changes in so little time.

Thanks for that Pete .... I'm a bit worried that it seems to be an internal issue. We have enough to contend with this year with the CAA etc.

In FFTC Newsletter 101 the Nationals entry fee per class is given as £12. Would the entry fee for the scale comps have been any different/

Last year I paid £11 per class , £12 would have been ok with me . But then we don’t know the ins and outs of it because we’ve not been told that bit

I would have thought that it was up to the STC to decide on the fees for their competitions, not the FFTC, even though these comps take place at a site arranged by the later. Surely if we have paid the airfield entry fee then we can fly our models and even arrange our own comps!

Hi Gents

Ron, you've hit the nail right on the head.  But sadly it is not the case.
The STC do set the comp fees for the year, but the FFTC have completely ignored that.

Yes it is a shame that the STC have had to take this action - but there are really good reasons for it.
I can't go into them with specifics, as I was not party to the discussions - higher than my pay grade.

The STC are working hard to find a different event, or another date at Barkston (not the August Nats), to run those competitions which are cancelled.

It would surely be a huge embarrassment to the BMFA if some of its paid up members were prevented from competing at Barkston not because of the MoD, not because of a security alert, not because the site's being built on, not because of the new drone regulations, not because anyone's model fails to meet the safety requirements, not even because of adverse weather...

...but because two of their own tech committees can't talk to each other and sort out the fees!

It's a shame you can't give us more specifics here, John. I guess we ordinary BMFA members will just have to wait and read the ins and out of the debacle in the next BMFA News.

I’m with you on this Pete.

Does the STC have any idea how ridiculous this situation is .... clearly not

Well put, Pete .... the word 'debacle' had just started to form the tone of my response.
I can't afford entry fees too often lately, so I have to give the opinion of a spectator/flyer that has to cherry pick events. Won't running these events at another time or venue just cost the actual flyer more money in travel, airfield entry etc. ? It would also influence my decision about travelling to the FF Nats ... the revenue of the Nats will fall.
It looks like noses are being cut off to spite faces to me ... sort it out .... please!

And what about the people who fly in both duration and scale at the FF Nats? Or anyone who wants to put their scale model in the Bowden? Or the whole premise that when different disciplines fly alongside each other you get more crossover leading to the future health of all disciplines concerned?

Indeed, Pete.

I'm purely guessing here ... but the events mentioned are usually 'field entry' with a lower entry fee. Is this the sticking point? I hope not as I consider them good 'taster' events drawing in new blood (even i have entered!). As far as i know, these events will not get you an invitation to the annual dinner and prize do? Ie. They are not 'main events' (not my kind of thing so forgive my ignorance!)

..... or am I reading it wrong and it is all the FF scale events?

May I suggest you send your views, whatever they are, to Ian Pallister; current BMFA Chairman and past STC Chairman. Ian is also under the impression that there was consultation over the recent rules debacle.

I see that the STC have set a £12 entry fee for the FF comps in August so why not £12 in May?
