Good morning or afternoon as the case may be.

Thanks to Crabby, I have a Nowlen Aero kit for the little racer.  The reproduction in the US looks really different from what I have seen in photos of the real item.  Does the French Air Museum (I can't come close to the correct French) have some good gallery photos of the real airplane?

Mostly interested in the Gordon Bennett Cup winner in the USA in Chicago, I think.  Jules Vedrinnes (again, probably wrong spelling) was the pilot.  I would like to duplicate, if possible the markings on that specific airplane.

Any links to sites or leads will be greatly appreciated.

I put this in Indoor, but would also apply if I built it for Outdoor.  Short range plan is to fly it with the Atlanta club during their Indoor season.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Flydean,

I too have the Nolan Aero kit and would be very interested in finding out how you get on.

You could try emailing the National Aerospace Library of the Royal Aeronautical Society in the UK. They do charge for copies from their books. They have an extensive collection of contemporary books, magazines and photos.

Cheers

Dan,

That is lovely. Is it the Nolan kit? If so, how did the build go? What did you paint it with?

I love the pilots mustache. Most important for these veteran planes.

I can't take any credit for that, much as I wish I could. Pic is Ian Pallister's model at the Indoor Nats, lifted from Mike Stuart's excellent site.

Cheers,

Dan.

Racing Planes and air races, Volume 1, by Reed Kinert, has a chapter on the 1913 James Gordon Bennett Cup Race.   There are 6 photo's, 4 of which are attributed to Musee de l'Air, and a 3-view.   (easily scanned for you if you PM an address).

There are 3 more in The Golden Age of Air Racing by Schmid and Weaver.

The Speed Seekers by Thomas G  Foxworth, was my 1st guess but the only photo is a cropped view of the nose showing the twin row engine with part of the cowling removed.

I have some 35mm slides too, taken at Musee de l'Air around 1986, when the Dep was on display, but finding them will take a bit more time.

Chris,  don't need the slides, but the scans would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  PM to follow.
