Any chance you could copy the main points here, or is there a copy somewhere on their website?

Cheers,
Lurk.

"The short story is that the balsa wood plantations and mills in Papua New Guinea and Ecuador are currently swamped with a flood of demand from wind turbine manufacturers. This new industry demand has drastically increased the market value of balsa wood and put pressure on supplies.

We require the best quality medium grade balsa wood for our rubber-powered free-flight kits and have been stockpiling this to keep our existing kits coming.
Unfortunately, this has meant that we have had to delay the release of our first batch of updated, laser-cut West Wings kits - we didn’t want to release them and then immediately run out of stock!
Rest assured, West Wings is coming in the new year along with more models in the Aerographics range and a few extra surprises…
Luckily, our new Balsa Basics range of RC models are less compromised by the more readily available dense balsa and so we have been pushing these very hard - they are also truly excellent kits!

Some of you may be aware that we acquired SAMS Models just before the lockdown, but it took until lockdown was released in June to actually pick up the stock. Since then we have been flat out producing kits and shipping orders, so listing the many products from the SAMS inventory has had to take a back seat. We hope to get as much of this stock catalogued and listed on our website as possible but it may be the new year before this is done.
If there’s an item that you know SAMS used to stock, it is definitely worth giving us a call as we can usually rummage through the boxes and find it if it’s there."

I've got two of those kits .... one started in 2003 and the other won in a raffle .... hopefully untouched. I'm still tempted to wait for a laser cut kit!
I have the VMC version of the eindekker .... nice kit, so look forward to more!

I'm buying balsa from you as often as my conscience allows!  Thanks for going to all this effort during the pandemic...Balsa models are keeping me (and I expect a lot of others) sane. Grin

Yes me too. Only built one so far, the DH60, and that was from the plan because I couldn't get the kit. It is one of my favourite small models and makes me want to do some more of their kits.

Lovely DH60 Kevin, really nice model.

I have a soft spot for a DH60 - the Peck peanut one is on my list of models to build but that ones been out of production for a while too

Some of the Aerographics range would be well suited for the new intermediate class .... dare we even dream about the indoor Nats next year?   Undecided

Yes, fingers crossed. One of the many disappointments this year has not been having Mike S's report on the Indoor FF Nats (and Nijmegen). Something I look forward to.

That's very good news, Bill. Thanks. They're a classy company VMC: a little customer service, in the form of such an update, goes an awfully long way. All very hopeful.

Agreed, lovely job on that DH60 Kevin!

Chris, I have that Peck peanut kit... and have already sketched out the modifications for a Voodoo 15 motor!  Grin

Bill, thanks so much for giving us a sit-rep on VMC - glad they're going to continue to be our almost last-remaining main supplier of essentials!

I’ve also got a a Peck Moth peanut kit in waiting. Another potential cook-up? Mine will be finished as Amy Johnson’s when I get around to building it.

It's good news to hear that VMC have decided to take on SAMS and Westwings in such difficult times - good luck to them. Thanks for the update Bill.

I had seen the newsletter earlier and rather assumed so had everyone else.  Having met some of them after dropping in en route elsewhere I can say they are jolly nice people and quite professional so the Newsletters are no surprise.  As some of you know I am not a kit builder (an age thing) but I did buy the Tiger Moth and although for me a bit of a struggle it is superbly designed and presented.  Anyone else would have found it a real pleasure to build.  Not easy to trim but some of that was my fault!

I do hope they continue to thrive.

Since Pete and Jack have the Peck-Polymers kit of the D.H.60GM, I will mention that in 1999 I drew a plan for a D.H.60GIII Moth Major for my club of that time, the Cleveland Free Flight Society.  The model uses the P-P printwood.  Recently, the plan found it's way onto Outerzone, so here it is.

I do like that Mark - 1/64 sheet sides and skin!

I'm modelling mine on the prototype with the early Cirrus engine, as its more bulbous nose will more comfortably accommodate the geared electric motor.

That's a nice plan, Mark  Smiley
I have seen a lot of your work over the years, but this is the first time I have seen one of your plans.
