Some time ago, I started design on a 20mm EDF unit for 2S lipo's.
Here is the unit - hand built using parts and a 3D printer:

   

I then looked for a model I could test it in and the Jetex range of models came to mind straight away. Looking through them all I settled on the DH108 Swallow for Jetex50 as the test jet for my setup.

On your "mod" - I suspect that your mod had nothing to do with the ship being "sucked to the ground". Your first flight was close to the stall during the entire flight this is why it was so squirrely and why the tis were stalling all over the place. She was just going too slow. The reason you were going slow was that the fan was not moving enough air. When you opened the upper hole you doubled the air-in volume and allowed the fan to put out more thrust. The resultant increase in speed led to a more stable  flight profile.

Definitely inspiring stuff. I would be stoked to build one of these.

indoorflyer - a lot of people were sad when Steve passed away and his son got involved to the point of letting the site disappear. I voluntarily rebuilt the site and host and maintain it and haven't received a penny for my efforts. All in a bid to keep alive the online community he built for this great little hobby of ours, no matter how big or small the membership is.

Hi Nitrocharged, good to see you on here. I've followed your micro EDF on RCG and am very impressed. I hadn't made the connection!

Thanks for your efforts on SFA. It was sad that the heart of it got lost before you were able to step in. But thanks for preserving what you could.

I look forward to more of your build threads. And I'd like to get my hands on some tiny ducted fans at some point

Thanks guys. I know most left before I saw what had happened and stepped up to do what I could.

I do hope to be making these fan units available in the near future. I am making a few more models to solidify that they will work in a range of designs. Working on a 20mm EDF BAE Hawk and a 20mm EDF Komet (Aerographics reproduction) after drawing up the plans for each of them at the moment followed by a Huckebein after that. That one is half completed on my drawing board.

Curious  re the Aerographics Komet.  Have one of those.
 It did take a fair bit of Ad hocery to convert the rapier version to scale.
But the Odd airfoil used  Doesn't inspire much confidence.
Have you cobbled up something more mainstream for it?

I did find a set of ribs someone drew up (forgive me for forgetting who) with a more passive airfoil and reported it worked well. I've attached them to this post.

I contacted someone in the USA who had a Komet kit and he offered to sell it me, so that is on it's way here. I'll make plugs of the plastic LE fairing and Canopy for re-use.

Meanwhile I am in the throws of drawing up and building a 20mm EDF, 15" Huckebein.

I have a mig kit in the box....the 20mm unit would work in it...when they become available I may want to venture into a few build...I'll be saving my $$ to get a unit....
