I built this model back in 1997.  Originally it was done in the yellow and blue USAAF scheme.    I have recently refurbished it.  Just needs glazing and plenty of nice art deco trim in black and gold.

I took the opportunity to separate the rudder and build a much better set of wings.  I also carved a heap more meat off the original prop and glassed it.  The prop is Doug McHard's 1/24 ME109 prop scaled up to 10" diameter

Did you include the "bomb" as a working feature?  I've had the plan for a number of years and "study" it at least once a week - still too chicken to build it Undecided...

Google pulls up several options.

Bob Holman can send you the plan and a short kit.

Pit you should certainly build it. We ran a JA contest at the time. Most people did Skokies and BA Parasols. Someone did a Yellow Jacket and I think someone did the big Bluebird. I know Hank did The Skychief which is the biggest in the range but a pussycat to fly.

I was the only person to tackle the Bomber. It’s an interesting build and the bamboo outlines have been very successful.  I didn’t do the bomb but still could as the entire mechanism is external. The 3-blader works really well and the model is a great flier.

Separating the rudder and making a screw adjuster for the tailplane were good enhancements this time around

I should have added that I engineered a more conventional nose plug this time and fitted one of my patent thrustline adjusters. The model was never difficult to trim but the adjuster and the separate rudder will give me so much more flexibility to play around and get it perfect

ZK-AUD how do you install glazing? I usually glue windows into frames with RC56 glue. It dies clear but at the junction there is always a visible residue of glue.

And in what way are you building a better wing please - I have the plan but not really studied it in any detail!  With your reputation it could be worth following! 8)y

Marcin. Depending on the model I place the glazing on top of or behind the frame depending on how thick the wood is. Sometimes I cut accurately and inset the glazing. In all cases I hold the glazing in place with a few small pieces of Tamiya tape. I also use RC56 but thinned with water. I apply it with a small pointed 00 brush to the edge of the glazing and capillary action does the rest. I do sufficient to hold the glazing and then when that has dried I remove the tape and fill the remaining gaps.

David Apart from making a much better job than I did 24 years ago I re-drew the ribs so that everything fitted perfectly and the ribs were the same section through the taper

I too have always admired this model. Last year, I took it on as a project and was building it per the plan when I decided to rebuild the top of the fuselage and make the model into a tribute to the US Navy Devastator torpedo bomber. The torpedo is for looks only and would be removed for flight...something which I have yet to try!

Here is Maxfliart's video of the 'Bomber:

If you haven't already, checkout his other videos. The biggest problem is that after seeing his work, I'm tempted to just give up this whole hobby...
