That's for boots-on-the-ground engineers or technicians.

For design engineers the motto is "If it's broke, we can fix that; if it ain't broke, we can fix that."

A tool is an object that allows you to take advantage of the Laws of Physics and Mechanics in such a way as to permit you to do serious injury to some part of your body.

The most useful thing to remember about Mechanics (besides the Three Laws of Thermodynamics) is that you don't push with a rope, water doesn't flow uphill and gravity is supreme.
