These planes are moving the hobby in amazing directions - beautiful craftmanship and performance!  I'm a big fan of Alaskan aircraft (my last build was an "Aleutian Tiger" P-40), the older Alaska Air Command P-51H was great, but the new one is simply stunning.

Honestly - even for me the performance of the P-51D is a pleasant surprise. Despite being 25% heavier than the P-51H and having worse proportions, it flies on an identical rubber band (2 x 2.3 - 500 / 550 mm depending on the conditions in the hall ) and the maximum times achieved will be similar. The flight in the video is at about 75% of maximum turns. The reason must be better aerodynamic efficiency of the airframe - especially a smooth wing with adequate airfoil thickness.
