A sort of calm fell here-abouts - enough to entice to the local reserve.

The Nassise Cessna Airmaster was to hand - and nothing like an evening flying session to lift the spirits.

A couple of local families with young kids wandered over to watch and ask questions - the kids were delightful and very interested.

Went Flying :-)

I have a question for Tross....

Did the house come with the thermal generator or did you have it installed later?

Superb day today flying free flight rubber and CO2 models ( with the odd IC interloper)  in near perfect conditions at Port Meadow. Great to see Mike and Pete, there were some great flights by all and it was a huge fun day despite me spending a good hour hunting through the long grass looking for a lost Rocketeer that came down on the D/T into knee high long grass  Embarrassed Still I did find it in the end

Mike had both new Handley Page twins flying very well as well as both Consolidated Fleetstars and Peter's Berinov and RE8 were equally spectacular to mention a few of the models  we brought between us.

Highlight of my day was seeing my Miles Falcon cruise around for a couple of large circuits and descend nicely too on 500 turns. I tried to repeat it for the cameras but fate struck and one of the wheel fairings came loose ruining the flight and the model found the only patch of short grass in 2 sq miles and bent the prop shaft !! still very happy with that . This is one model that likes to fly with its trousers pulled up. ...right new prop shaft and better means of holding up the trousers

some of afternoon was spent on an extended country walk looking for a bright pink model in a field long grass. It took all 3 of us doing a three pronged approach ( Thanks again guys) and we still couldn't see it. I'd almost given up on it and put a call out on our club site for any drone flyers wanting a mission to see if they could spot it  - which worked a treat as almost giving up is often the time you find things and a final walk round and it appeared out of the long grass

Here's a few pics I have some video too which I'll sort out tomorrow

1 Mike Stuart's Consolidated Fleetstar ( the small one)

2 Mike's Consolidated Fleetstar ( the big one)

3 Peter Smart's RE8

4 Mike adding some hand turns for an early flight for the Fleetstar

5 Mike and Pete winding Mike's Ray Malstrom Handley Page Dart Herald

6 The wayward Rocketeer - it D/T'd down in long grass and despite being pink ..disappeared !!!

Great photos, Chris  Smiley
What a superb day that looks .... and what a collection of models and aeromodellers for just a 'normal week day'!
A shame that you haven't got any 'film' of the Miles ... another day hopefully.

What a super day. Also looking forward to Miles footage eventually, or perhaps even a live performance before too long. Can't wait to get back to Port Meadow again! Mike's Fleetsters look great too.

I don’t have details, but he’s had it a while. This is Monz’s video from the 2016 indoor Nats where it finished 3rd. https://youtu.be/ZtfTayPoE-A

There’s a nice photo in Mike Stuart’s report from that year too: http://www.ffscale.co.uk/page3af.htm

Knowing Pete, there won't be a plan - just some sketches he built over.

Ok here's the video of the afternoon.

Obviously many are trimming flights and as ever when flying and trying to video everyone else you miss the best flights but hopefully you get the idea of what a lovely afternoon it was

Thanks for posting those Chris.  What a lovely day it was.  The long grass was great for trimming - less good for locating your models when they landed!

I did get a video of your Miles but it was the one where the wheel pant fell down just after launch and spoiled the trim.

I made a much longer flight with the BUA Herald later with 1000 winds on - it seems to be happy going left, but not so happy right, as it did at the end of the flight you videoed.  Now I know it flies I'll put the plan on my website.

The Ray Malstrom Herald is great fun - climbs like a rocket and very stable - it even managed to catch some lift, as shown in your video.

I will post a video later I took of Pete's Beriev Be 12.

Here is Pete Smart's twin rubber Beriev Be 12 flying as well as ever after he had to rebuild the whole front fuselage.  Video taken yesterday on Port Meadow.

I watch all kinds of  murder mystery TV shows that take place in Oxford.  Isn't it an awfully dangerous place?

Of course, I jest.  What a lovely day!

Still in Oxford, a nice evening at Port Meadow. The KK Super Cruiser is a super flyer. The FK3 is minus its fin because when I saw it turning too tight left, my solution was to give it some left rudder.
I also sorted out my Aiglet for the classic A1. I don't get this glider business - you are running like hell away from the model so you can't see what it's doing because it's behind you (oh no it isn't).
Note the ACME balloon about to release the anvil.

A rare calm evening after a long period of wind and a large field. I decided to try a full power launch on my 300mm wing span CLG. Launch angles- particularly bank are critical at these levels of power. I was rewarded with some good flights around 60sec in cool almost still air, with this first one landing within 5 paces of my wing and RC transmitter.  Watch it in HD as the glider is hard to see otherwise.

I participated in the 2021 Charles Grant/MIMLOCT event this year, but my camera decided not to record the footage. But here's my recreation of the 2 flights. Much glare in flight #2. Lots of fuzziness in both. Smiley
