I'm not 100% sure if that was the main problem as I don't know when the damage to the firewall occurred! I repaired both the Jodel and the Eastbourne last night so I'll just have to hope for a calm evening sometime soon...

See you on the 29th!

Many of you have seen this video, but just today I found a higher quality version of this video posted by the Today's show correspondent, Mike Leonard.  You also see Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira's comments at the end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPDQPNnQkA8

Larry Cailliau is the main feature of the story.   Also Justin Young, twice F1D junior world champion.  You also see many shots of our friend Larry Coslick flying his ornithopter and AROG.

Does anybody know what the music is?

Enjoy.

I've been preparing for the Kent contest and record trial, and flying lots of 1/2 motors on EZB and F!L.  Here are a few scenes from my F1L.

This is a gym that the local San Diego Orbiteers fly in once per month.  The gym has lots of space, and the bottom of the beam is at 22'.

Thanks for the videos Kang - I hadn't seen the Today show item before. And the F1L/EZB footage nice also. I love the backslides those things can do and still pull up in time to restart their climb.

I finally processed and uploaded the videos from Kent.

There are F1D's, F1L's, EZB's, and LPP's.  I missed Don's Cabin, A6's from Tom and Bill,  and Ministicks.

F1D: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUVXjDhCPwo
- Sanborn and Kagan's F1D's

F1L: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcrUujbJyvY
- 4 different F1L's are shown

EZB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-_jFxQO7Ig
- Only 1 EZB

LPP and rest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfTAGugYYDI
- Bill, Leo, Mzik, Annis

Enjoy.

I hear that in the last 24 hours or so there has been some amazing indoor flying going on...   Brett Sanborn has done 42min+ at Lakehurst, Kang has broken 30 minutes with an EZB at Kibbie and Aki has broken the F1L Cat 1 record in Tokyo. This could be proof of Einstein's prediction of Gravitational Waves affecting space time - or maybe these guys are just getting better and better...
I suspect it's the second of these explanations. But if it's a gravitational wave - and you have a wound model in your hands - now might be a good time to launch  :-)

Hi
Last night with help from Tim, I managed to get a video of my Farman F190. I took along 3 charged 100mah Li-Po's and got around 25 flights during the night. I am using a K.P. timer  so unlike the Zombie there is no cruise mode, just a power and a decay setting. It would be nice to be able to set a power setting for R.O.G's then go into a cruise for a longer flight but I like to be able to use a brushless motor and I don't Know of any timers with this function that can be used with an E.S.C. Does anyone have any ideas? I could probably back down the power setting a bit and then increase the time, still I'm very happy with the consistent way that it flies and around 40 seconds is a long enough flight.

Oh the guts it must take to let go of that with all of those vertical surfaces. Shocked
How many times did you fly it there? 25?
I hope you don't plan any longer flights because I had
to hold my breath and nearly passed out! Grin
Have you found any timers with the function you're wanting,.. that can be used with an E.S.C.?
Because ROG would be the perfect addition to the 'tray' thing.
Very nice Dave.

I managed to get some flying at Impington on Sunday, and thanks to my mate Phil who brought his HD camera, I got some video. I took my Speedy, Raven, Boston Cub and BD5.

Had some nice flights with the Speedy, it's one of my favorites, flying very consistently when it has the right amount of power (7/64th rubber). It usually does between 25-30 seconds.

I tried my Frog Raven indoors for the first time, it's usually an outdoor model but the wing loading is similar to a Bostonian. At about 19 grams with nose weight it is slightly underpowered on 1/8th rubber. I did get one 'interesting' flight where the Raven weaved it's way between about some spectators in a perfect pylon turn  Grin

I did seem to end up hitting just about every wall and the ceiling during the day but it was a fun day.

Some nice flights Jon, it is a small (and packed) hall at impington i would fear almost as much for someone treading on my model than it hitting the wall.....

The speedy flies beautifully I thought, it is a lovely little thing, it really is.

Very good day at the Manchester Velodrome North West Gala today.
I was pleased with my own flights (Betty-Jo and Agricola). Very happy to finish right down the table though on account of the big guns filling up the top spots (Mike Hadland, Derek Knight, Laurence etc.).
So who won Open Rubber you ask?
Well Tim's Misty racer was an excellent 2nd. Freshly repaired from her contretemps with Betty-Jo the other week and flying better than ever. Anyone else want me to 'improve' their model, just let me know.

But Misty was pipped to the top spot by....

Tim's Hergt monoplane, seen in the background, also freshly repaired from the other week!

Well done Tim!!!

Well done Laurence too, (who was in fact 2nd despite Tim's 1,2, as they placed the modellers rather than the models ). Lovely flights from the previous kit-scale winning yellow high winger!

Dave Crompton's Farman Moustique. Only missed a qualifying flight by a single second, but looking very promising.
