Had a nice relaxed session at Bushfield this morning. Spent the first part of the session trimming the new glider but afterwards had a play with my Chipmunk and Speedy. The speedy is still my 'best value' model - it's quite old but its always in trim and tremendous fun  Smiley

Took the opportunity of a little fleet pic or two.

Grin  what a night, ambulances were going all night long.  the victims were:

1) bentom Zero.  first flight  the zero circled tightly and then landed hard smashing the wing into multi pieces.  i will have to rebuild wing completely from scratch i also will try using 1/8 rubber instead of 3/16 for indoor.
2) diels P 66 . first flight flew in a circle and then landed hard smashing the propeller.  maybe 1/8 rubber band here too.
3) Comet Super cub  Needs downthrust and better quality tissue  also left wing strut isn't quite right  The plane was repaired and will be flight checked.
4)  Sig Mr Mulligan .  Its getting there but needs better covering job and better tissue on wing.  This will be repaired shortly.

Hi Everyone,
I went flying today with a few folks indoors. I made a few videos of 2 walk along gliders that are a lot of fun. The t-tail walk along is a bit heavier and requires a faster walk. The flying wing is larger and lighter and is easier to walk behind. The last video is of the Bluetbird i made doing a nice "1 point" landing :-).
All in all a fun day in a warm gym with a cold day outside!
 Best regards,
Jim

Have I missed it, or was there nothing to report from last weekend's meeting at the Manchester Velodrome?

I did a bit of flying at Bushfield last Sunday with a very warped Gyminie Cricket!
Kept missing Jon's Tucano ... was hoping to get some video.

Russ, I went up there for the first time to judge scale and there were about 9 entries in open flying only, about 5 in Peanut and about 2 in Pistachio, plus the duration events. Open models included Puss Moth, Zero, Tipsy Nipper, Lacey, Arado, Cessna, Cessna, Cessna, Hergt. Nothing dramatic to report and I shall put some photos in my column.
To be honest I expected a lot more people to be there. It's a good site and, at this time of year and with the loss of Church Fenton I thought it would be heaving.

I too had hoped that there would be many more participants, but only got one call (from Peter Woodhouse) prior to the event and he won open and placed 3rd in peanut.
The scale results are here - http://www.scalebmfa.co.uk/Results/Velodrome%202015.htm
Thank you to the ITC for the invite, Dave Whitehouse for doing the venue organising, Bill and Trish Dennis for judging, Mike Colling and Gordon Warburton for computing the results and finally to those who made the effort to get along and fly.
Sorry Russ I have no camera at present, so no pics to post, but I assume (dangerous I know) that Tim, Dave, Bill, Ian or someone will post some pics and or videos.

Thank you both .... I do feel as though I'm letting the side down, but things just keep getting in the way of me attending any event at the velodrome

As I get older, and realise that the long list of models to be built has an end in view, I try to use every opportunity to fly. And there are plenty of opportunities. And we need to support those who organise events.

Let alone "I wish I'd spent more time mowing the lawn/watching TV/washing the car" etc. but sometimes real life still gets in the way, and there was just no way for me this time. I think that Velodrome event, and the one the previous Saturday were about the first ones there I've missed though, and agree it is a great space to fly in. Thanks for all the organisational  effort John and all others involved, and long may meetings there continue.

A few videos from the Bushfield pre-Nats trimming session organised by Andy Sephton.

This a great indoor site to fly in, a big clean box of still air goodness! If there are more of these 'all day' sessions (as opposed to the regular three hour sessions, then the drive is worth it, all five hours of it!).

Some videos, all facebook, but set to public so anyone can see them, with or without a facebook account, click on HD.

Excellent! Thanks for posting, Monique. As you say, WELL worth the trip and though the turnout was low, it meant those of us who did go had a great uncrowded space to fly in all day. I too would happily make the trip South again and again for more sessions like that.
I've already posted the three vids I (or my son Thomas) took, but here's a another link to them anyway. https://m.youtube.com/results?q=pgfardell&search_type=&uploaded=w
That DVII of yours is a joy to watch. Love the smooth landings especially.
Don't know if anyone got pics or footage of the various Crossley, Banham, Strachan and Knight creations which also kept us entertained all day, not to mention Jon's SE5A.
Jon, did I see your little Frogesque Tucano on the table when I came in? I've been kicking myself I because meant to come back for a proper look at it, but then forgot all about it!

Uploading videos at the moment Pete .... not sure I do have some of those you mention though. I do have stills of most of the models being trimmed there though.

Here's the first ... I managed to find myself in the middle of the flight circle Embarrassed I didn't move so as to not disturb the air ... and it did get nice and close to the action!

Another good day at the Manchester Velodrome. Most relaxing in fact, with no pressure to trim anything for any competitions etc. Numbers a bit down on last time but plenty of space.
I tried my unflown 'Spitball' off the ground and it did take off once , but the immediate collision and fall from the net resulted in a bent wing (more or less repaired on the spot) and I decided to save further trimming for a calm long grass day.

However, also tried my Bluebottle kit Me109 indoors for the first time (it's been on the shelf for a couple of years) and was delighted to find it flew straight off on a single loop of rubber without any weight added, tweaks or trim tabs or anything. What a great little kit it is.

Tim got his Dumbo going well too, so a very satisfactory day all round.

Meant to get a picture of your Globe Swift, Ralph, but you'd gone by the time I got round to remembering.

Anyway, a couple of videos: Tintin in the Messerschmitt, and Dumbo.

and there's still one more of these meets on 27th Feb, plus the NW gala on 13th Feb.
Come on, where else can you fly among world class cyclists and airborne elephants? Tell me and I'll be there!

The Bluebottle 109 is a great flyer .... yours is no exception Pete. Again though, you have made this model full of character  Smiley

I wonder if any of the pursuit riders training had dreams of being caught by a flying elephant that night?  Roll Eyes

Still got to build my 109 .... and I still have Steve Bage's too! A contender for the Air Race I think?

As usual, would love to get to the Velodrome ... but I even missed the club meet at Bushfield this weekend ... I had been there the evening before for the PMFC AGM and then didn't fancy driving straight back out there the next morning.
Didn't think it warranted an overnight stop .... but wish I had now. Still rue the fact that the great meetings at Parklands, Leicester stopped as I got into indoor flying!
