Some P-18 Pursuit attributes.

This model complies with AMA Event 227, which is an indoor category known as the P-18 event. The P in P-18 stands for plastic propeller, which for this event is that pathetic little 5.5” diameter unit used on the well-loved and perhaps equally loathed Delta Dart (a.k.a. the AMA Cub). The 18 in P-18 designates the maximum wingspan and maximum overall length for this model airplane.
The P-18 Pursuit uses the arc of a circle for the airfoil instead of the more commonly used Simplex type airfoil found on most indoor duration models. This has several advantages. You don’t have to worry about installing the ribs in backwards. Also, you can build two identical wing panels and they are still mirror images of each other, provided you wait until after you join the two wing panels together before adding the tip plates. I used the plastic produce bag material for covering my P-18 Pursuit. I thought about using expensive Gampi tissue paper, which weighs around 0.8 grams per square foot, but the plastic produce bag weighs even less at 0.5 grams per square foot, and the price is right - it costs nothing!
So far, I have only had two flying sessions with the P-18 Pursuit, and this model has done a “No Touch” flight of 1 minute, 59.71 seconds under a 28 foot ceiling using 2,325 turns on a 25” loop of 0.077” wide Tan Super Sport rubber. A “No Touch” flight is where the model does not touch anything except the floor, which ends the flight. The rubber motor had 125 winds remaining after that flight, so that poor little propeller was spinning it’s little heart out at 1,100 rpm!
