Micro Funtan UL
Description: Micro Funtana UL (Ultra Light)
Wingspan: 21", Length: 19", Motor: BL180, 4-channel, 2S 7.4v 250mah LiPo

Designed for indoor 3D aerobatics, this plane is made from 1/2 sheet of Dollar Tree Foam Board (or Depron) and powered by the electronics package found in the newer E-flite UMX models (BL180 brushless motor, nano receiver with integrated 6Amp ESC and 2 linear servos, and 2 long-throw linear servos), and covered with 4 sheets of Avery #18665 Clear mailing label material that I printed at home on my computer printer.

The submitted PDF has the construction Plan, a Parts Layout Plan sized for a single sheet of DTFB (20' x 30"), 4 letter-sized Stars & Stripes trim scheme sheets, and 4 blank Trim Sheets that can be loaded into a paint program like GIMP so that you can design your own trim. The Parts Layout is a vectorized PDF suitable for use with a laser or CNC cutter and will cut parts for two models.

The plane has a lot of lightening holes to reduce weight. I used a 1/4" dia brass tube to cut the corner holes, then used an x-acto knife to cut the straight lines. After all of the holes are cut, the heavy paper is removed for more weight reduction. The finished airframe, without electronics, weighs just 26 grams! With the UMX package installed, weight should be about 50 grams. Mine weighed 90 grams with the larger, heavier, equipment shown.

The wing is reinforced with a 1.2 mm x 4 mm strip of carbon fiber spar and 1.2 mm carbon fiber rod is used to stiffen the rudder, elevator, and the trailing edge of the wing at the ailerons. The pre-printed trim scheme material is applied to one side of all surfaces and serves as the hinge for the movable surfaces.
