Simple Dethermalizer for Small Gliders.
Description: This is a very simple design for a falling weight dethermalizer for small outdoor gliders. I've used this design on the Flip catapult glider and the Sweepette-Ette 14 catapult glider and it works very well. It puts the glider into a series of whip stalls, which stops the glider from circling and causes the glider to fall out of the thermal. I plan on using it on an 8" span catapult glider.

Clarification on this drawing.
The lead shot weight replaces a plastic bead that would normally be used to allow the string to interface with the tapered slot of the D.T. timer arm. When the lead shot slips from the timer arm, it falls aft and the wire with built-in stop helps to prevent the lead shot from hitting the tail. The lead shot needs to have a small hole drilled into it to allow attaching the string to it. Use nylon thread or monofilament line for the string that goes from the rubber band to the lead shot bead. The rubber band can be adjusted in length to increase/decrease tension, thus increasing/decreasing timer speed.
