Apache23 - An Unorthodox Science Olympiad Design
Description: Apache23 was designed for 2023 SO FLIGHT event (Div. C.) It flew effortlessly for 3+ min. under a low ceiling of 26'6" on the first full-wind flight early this year. Like its successor, Apache24s (link below), Apache23 does not have wingtip plates, nor dihedral. It is a simple, unconventional, and yet well behaved design. It is easy to trim and has no stability problem, as seen in a YouTube video:

There are subtle differences between Apache23 and Apache24s designs. The most obvious differences are the airfoil profile and wing spar location. Apache23 utilizes a slightly reflexed airfoil to compensate the sensitive trimming challenge due to short fuselage length that was imposed by SO box rule. That reflexed airfoil also helps tame the usual issues that come at full-wind high-torque launch.

The flight in the video was with a custom-built flaring propeller. I will soon post a short video for building precise, true-helical, propellers. Please check back later.
